Windows encrypting file system notification

Featured Replies

Ever since installing MSFS2020, if I access the C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\... location, I get a windows notification suggesting I backup my file encryption certificate and key. Is this normal? What is gained/lost by doing this?

No one else has seen this notification?

I can't believe I'm the only one receiving this message? I get it once a day, if I access the FS location C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\... in windows explorer.

Yes I keep getting that message and assumed that it was something to do with MSFS2020. I am getting more disillusioned with this game every day.

I do not receive any messages when navigating to this folder. My guess would be you have encrypted at least one file on your system. This can even be an encrypted file attached to an email that was sent to you. You can check this in the Certificate Manager in Windows.

1. Windows key + R
2. Type 'certmgr.msc' without the quotes
3. Open the Personal and Trusted People folders

You may need to export and then delete these certificate(s) and reboot. Not sure, but that is where I would look first.
