Potential upgrade

Hi all,

Like many I was eagerly waiting to see what performance I get on my ageing hardware, mid range I would say.  The results have been good and bad!

Going from i7 4970k 4.4Ghz, 16GB 2100 Mhz, GTX 1070, installed on HDD (don't know specs) running at 1920 x 1080 Med - High settings (custom)

Currently I'm getting above 40 in non urban areas however in built up cities particularly on approach its quite stuttery and the FPS fluctuates a lot into low numbers especially when I am changing views.  Not a great experience.

to

i7 10700k, 32 GB 3200 Mhz to 2070 Super installed on Samsung 970 EVO SSD 1TB - I would hope to run this rig in High with +30 FPS in cities when the system is underload

Before I drop 2k on a new rig - I'd be interested to hear from those using similar specs above and what your performance is particularly in built up cities using the airliners...?

Thanks

This is very similar to my rig. In fact processor and RAM are exactly the same, and FS2020 is also installed on a SSD. Only real difference: I have a 2060 Super. So I'm a lower bound to what you should expect.

I only fly GA (so far) and I get very solid performance in photogrammetry cities: +50 FPS in Montreal (homebase) and +35 FPS in heavy Paris. +55 FPS (my limit is 60 FPS with VSync on) outside cities. AI traffic on. Have not tried NYC though... Note that I am playing in 1080p, which is the resolution of my monitor.

This is after basic tweaking through NVidia panel and a website I found very useful for the in-game tweaking (I can send you the links if interested). I ended up with a mix of high and ultra. Nothing else.

  • 2 weeks later...

dont buy any graphics card right now.

Also AMD spanks intel price performance ratio.

Red is AMD. Blue is Intel

also if you dont know about the new 3070 GPU $499 and faster than a 2080Ti (yes that is not a typo) you need to know about it. I havent bought a GPU yet but the 3070 comes out in October. I may just get a 3080 because it comes out in 2 weeks.

Boom I just saved you DAYS worth of research.

Agreed the new gpu are coming out in a month wait for that, i feel sorry for anyone that purchased a 2080ti recently.

What about stutters when you rotate the view in these cities?

I believe that what's most annoying in this (and other) sims is not the avg framerate (30-40 is OK) but the stutters.
