October 31, 200619 yr Mike,Thanks! For some people, memories are short lived and we forget the tweaks needed for FS9 (I remember the Autogen issue and running slow on my first PC). After I upgraded to a new PC and latest video card (a couple years ago), FS9 ran just great.JerryG
October 31, 200619 yr Thanks Mike, your positive frame of mind is a nice change. I used to come here for the tips and tricks now I kinda don't come here much at all now. Oh yeah I got FSX running on 3 20" wide screens via Matrox triple head and it is nothing short of spectacular, I love it.Tim
October 31, 200619 yr I am thinking of getting the Matrox triple head but my monitor (and I'd like to get 2 more like it) is 1440x900. Are you able to run in a resolution like that or does it have to be 1280x1024?Thanks for any info.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr Hey, the hardware limitations with the triple head as I understand it is limited by texture bandwidth and the type of connections that are used. All 3 of my monitors are 1680x1050 native but that translates to a theoretical single screen of like 5040x3150...not gonna happen.Right now the TH2G uses your basic vga connections to the card rather than the bigger bandwidth connections of DVI. If they go to a DVI piece you'll see much better WS support. Right now I'm running a single screen of 3840x768 and I can't tell you how awesome it is even at a non-native rez. Last night I decided to really back off to a normalized detail setting and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked. I'm running a 4800x2, 2gig mem, 7800gt-sli (which by the way TH2G supports)and a 70 gig raptor. Bottom line is with a machine like mine a one armed monkey hanging on to a ballon could get FSX to run pretty good, I really don't understand the weeping and knashing of teeth. Trust me I'd love to post some screens but I have yet to find a way to do it and not lose half of the detail in compression. If you have the means or the desire to go with TH2G, you are wasting time, get it! In my mind next to the CPU its the second most important invention for the PC I've ever seen. Oh and on don't get me started on non flt sim apps, can you see 3 different flt sim forums on 3 different screens? It's simply incredible, yes its a bit of a draw to the pocket book but well worth it. 2 benQ 20" WS $278 a piece and the TH2G was like $279. Best comp investment I've ever made.Tim
November 2, 200619 yr Hi Rob,"Although I generally agree with you, there's one point that creeps up all the time in threads like these: that we should be so very gratefull to MS/ACES. Well, I'm not. MSFS is a business, and MS does it to make profits with this product like any other product they develop/market/sell. Period."I understand, but aren't we forgetting those dedicated individuals who put in all the effort to make the sim what it is today? Don't they deserve our recognition, gratitude and, yes, plaudits? Without them, and, it has to be said, Microsoft's backing, we wouldn't have this sim at all.My feeling is that Microsoft have taken a risk with this version of Flight Simulator. They could have dummed it down in an effort to make it run fluidly on every mid-range PC and, in so doing, hope that it would appeal to and be accepted by everyone who purchased it, no matter where they live in the world. However, the fact is FS9 demonstrated in spades what was possible, given the enterprising nature of our relatively small community. FSX had to at least match, if not exceed these levels of excellence in so many ways to earn its rightful place as FS9's worthy successor.FSX will, in my judgement, prove, in the end, to be a flagship product and will likely be used across the globe in a multitude of ways. We are only at the moment of inception and should be feeling excited about what may lie ahead. As an MSFS hobbyist I quite enjoy (I think that's the word..LOL) battling with each sim to make it work as well as I can, given the limitations of my hardware. I accept such effort does not appeal to everyone and these same folk may complain because they are unable to exploit the sim to the full as soon as it is taken out of the DVD case and installed.Over the years Microsoft Flight Simulator has been elevated beyond the realms of the somewhat simplistic categorization of being a mere game. It's a phenomenon, an institution, an evolving unique product that now offers huge potential for enjoyment at almost every level. Currently there are very few games that can equal it in these respects.Regards,Mike
