Load vs Load and Activate

Featured Replies

For the approach I'm looking for a clarification between the two, Load vs Load and Activate.  I'm no expert so a bit lost here.  Also is the implementation working correctly?

Thanks

In the real thing, loading loads the procedure, but the nav unit won't sequence the waypoints. This is because you're typically not cleared to an approach until you're near your arrival. Activating an approach will sequence the waypoints and will route you to the first fix on the approach procedure.

It is not implemented correctly in the default avionics.

In sim, I find it best to LOAD the approach, which unlike the real thing, WILL sequence the approach waypoints and fly them appropriately.

So, in my experience, in sim, ignore the ACTIVATE and just load when you want those waypoints sequenced. Hope that helps.

With LOAD, the autopilot will not fly the approach (yet).

It allows you to select the approach and enter it into the GPS without affecting the current flightpath.

When you ACTIVATE, the approach becomes part of the active flightplan and the autopilot will fly it..

Edit: Just read the previous response.. indicating that it is not actually correctly implemented, so take this with caution..

Admittedly, it could be working differently with different planes/avionics. I haven't tested exhaustively by any means.
