September 10, 20205 yr I had a similar choice to make. I have a 4770K with a GTX 1070 and I am not upgrading anything right now. I will upgrade as soon as a reasonably priced 3000 series card with 16GB of VRAM is available, at which point I will also get an AMD CPU and all the trimmings. The 3090 is out of my price range and the 3080 and 3070 do not have enough VRAM. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
September 17, 20205 yr Author What I don't understand is why everyone is saying how poor my GPU is and saying it is barely above Min Spec. Its miles over min spec and a milion iles better than my old GTX 760 Am i missing something?
September 17, 20205 yr I have the same dilemma as the OP. I have a 4770K / 1070 with 32 GB but i have a 1440p G-Sync monitor. I probably average 25 FPS but it is very smooth with no stutters. My GPU is flat out all the time while my CPU is less than 40% most of the time. My logical upgrade would be to add more GPU to a 3070 and maybe upgrade the CPU to 4790K. The balance here is not wanting to spend $1800 on a new gaming pc when my current pc runs great, just to upgrade for msfs. It is a stop gap measure. Throw away some money today to buy another year or two, with the added benefit of upgrading to a better pc down the road. The reason for the 3070 would be to future proof the GPU. OP, if you did upgrade to the 4790K and OC it to 4.6 GHz it would be pretty strong. But i would future proof your GPU by getting a 2080Ti or better. Probably the 3070. That rig would be good for years. Hard to believe, considering i bought my 4770K in 2013. Intel crushed it with Haswell. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
