September 4, 20205 yr Hi all, Looking at the latest nvidia announcements I have been wondering if there is a real benefit for me upgrading to the 3090 from the 2080 Ti. I am using a 10900K at 5.1 Ghz and an ultrawide 3440x1440 resolution Dell display. I am pretty happy with this setup and I don't see going to 4K anytime soon. So in that respect, I was wondering if the 3090 would make a significant difference in my case. 3440x1440 is 50% less pixels than a 4K monitor, so do you think that a 3090 would be an overkill for my needs? I'd be glad to know your opinion. September 4, 20205 yr I'd say that if you're happy and you can't articulate to yourself a clear capability that's likely to be gained from the new GPU (more fps, higher settings of a specific type) then it probably is overkill. Video card technology is changing too fast to buy it based on what might be needed or useful out in the future, so I only buy what I need to satisfy specific current needs. When tomorrow comes, there will be something mo'-bigger-faster out there better suited to answer tomorrow's challenges. September 4, 20205 yr Author Thank you very much guys. I also tend to think that I'll keep my 2080Ti until I realize that an upgrade is needed. Certainly when the new cards are out I'll be interested to see comparative videos on performance in all flightsims. I am sure there will be many for MSFS. If the performance difference is huge I may decide to go this direction. Did some sightseeing today at 1,500 AGL VFR in the 172 (G1000) over Baltimore, Washington, and the Maryland Eastern Shore. Have the new Drzewiecki Designs Washington, DC, Landmarks scenery installed. Perfectly smooth. May have had one micropause in external camera view as I turned to follow the Potomac River west of downtown but it may have just been a camera shift. The add-on landmark scenery is great and also does include better detail at four area airports, albeit not KDCA, KIAD, or KBWI. Joint Base Andrews is one of the four and the airport at College Park near the Univ of Maryland is also one. Read they are working on an update to cure some double imaging of runways with those airports. The default Chesapeake Bay looks real good with the exception of the William Preston Lane Chesapeake Bay Bridge that spans the Annapolis area with the Eastern Shore. The bridge is nothing but a series of flat straight lines. The actual bridge has elevation, structure, and is not straight.
