September 5, 20205 yr Hello, I am planning building a new server for flight simulation. I have decided to go with the new RTX 3090 Ampere card, and the i9-10900k or I9-10850k whichever is available. One issue that I noticed is that the new RTX cards support PCIe 4.0. Intel left out the upgrade to PCIe 4.0 in their Comet Lake CPU's. AMD had some of their Ryzen CPU's with the PCIe 4.0 and some AMD based Motherboard manufacturers (Gigabyte) have some motherboards using the PCIe 4.0 Would a card like the RTX 3090 be throttled back, or not performing to its intended capacity due to this? Would it make a difference when using P3D V5 and MSFS 2020 if the CPU and MB only have PCIe 3.0? . I read that it would not, unless you are expecting to operate on a 200 FPS level. Can somebody shed some light on this? Thanks Juan
September 5, 20205 yr If you're not running an aggressive SLI configuration, you're not going to get remotely close to saturating a PCIe 3 bus. So no, not gonna make a difference. At this point it's superfluous, and that's the reason every new motherboard doesn't have it. September 5, 20205 yr Only thing I have seen on the desktop PC side that is outpacing PCIe 3.0 is a handful of SSDs. MSFS, NaviGraph Charts & FMS, Pilot2ATC, FsHubR5 3600X ,RTX 2060S, 32GB, SSD
