FS2020 Installation .. Frustration beyond belief!!

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I have just spent almost 3 hours installing the Standard disc version of FS2020 and disc 9 decided to error on me saying something like cannot read data cab 10  ...

I wasn't sure what to do so I just said 'ok' to the prompt thinking that all I need to do is clean the disc (even though it is brand new) and all that happened was the progress bar and installation screen disappeared and nothing else  .... no explanation and, as far as I know no way to continue apart from start all over again with the possibility of the same error happening again in 3 hours time!!!   Annoyed is an understatement!!

Has this happened to anyone else and is there a work around that I should of done when it errored on me

Thanks in advance

Paul

I don't have any fix or suggestion for you. I have the Steam version, not disks. But you have my complete sympathy! I spent over >10< hours Sunday after getting the 1.7.14.0 patch and it now won't get past the load screen/blue bar and I've reinstalled many times.

My frustration at this point is boundless. :(

A CAB file is a lossless archive file format - probably one of several from which the sim files are being extracted from the install DVDs.

If it said it can't read the CAB file, that suggests some kind of read error with your DVD drive.  So could be an issue with the drive, an issue with the disc, or an issue with the CAB file itself.

Aerosoft are in charge of producing and distributing the disc-version of MSFS, so my suggestion would be to check their support forum there for it, and see if it's a common issue.  If it isn't, I'd get in touch and see what they suggest - which might include sending you a replacement for a faulty disc.

When you first installed the sim back in August, did you have installation issues at some point?

If so, Asobo suggested doing a completely clean install from scratch with the patch, which I think included additional instructions to make sure absolutely every folder is deleted.

Sorry you're having so much trouble.

I'd also check the disc to make sure it's not scratched in any way, and as I said, make sure it's not some sort of known issue some people are encountering with the CAB.

You also might wanna give the install one more shot first, just to make sure it wasn't a weird one-off read error with the drive.  Though I'm not familiar with how long the disc-based install takes, haha.

Well, the application at least started with 1.7.14.0 once, but I still had a greyed out Marketplace so before ever flying with 1.7.14.0 and because of the various suggestions of a clean install post 1.7.14.0 release I did a reinstall and many, many reinstalls and countless attempts to re-start the application I have gotten nothing but stuck at the blue bar/loadscreen.

I installed on release day and there was a little trouble at first, but in a few hours it I was flying fine and have been until I updated to 1.7.14.0 and reinstalled on Sunday. Before I had plenty of crashes to desktop while flying, but was getting a lot of functional flying despite the crashing. And a greyed out Marketplace. But at least I was enjoying the sim. I'm VERY regretful I followed "clean install" advice as it's never started since then. See my thread:

I fully understand your frustration and you have all my sympathy.

When's the next patch or version expected?  :(

Well, well, well,....I am not alone in this frustration.

I tried SIX times to install-re-install FS2020. Not to mention the gazillions e-mails from Xbox "consultants", and always with the same results issues......the installation stuck in the "decompressing bla,bla,bla..", or not starting at all, or not updating... etc etc....

Every single online customer support consultant, provided me with the same questions / answers and procedures, However, the result is that after wasting all those hours, the problem remain exactly the same. ..

One night, after of  five hours again of interminable unsuccessful  downloads, one Xbox "consultant" asked me to access remotely to my PC to see if he can see and fix any issues....... BIG mistake on my part...!!!!.(Please, understand me, I was desperate.....!!!) .

After that "intervention" and rebooting the PC of course....I lost all internet connections, access all windows admin commands.....and the guy disappeared...!!!.... Fortunately  using a laptop and following an MS online Guru, I recovered the PC, and stared again.

So after one and halve month of anxiety and frustrations (and a few 5mg Valium pills) , I decided to give up and forget all about this FS-2020 installation.

I requested a money refund as I did NOT installed,  neither used the FS-2020....... Sorry mate, too late ...!!!

So here I am with a few bucks lost, no FS2020, except the old Steam FS already installed, and the expected up-today big Corporations responses, MS blame Xbox, and vise/ versa.....

at tangolpe.

aww, they really should refund ppl who cannot get it to work, on the other hand i say 99% of people got it running

eventually.

windows is a complex system, u would never ever let someone tangle with it.

Painful and scary lesson learn, thanks
