September 28, 20205 yr First post, which probably means I have posted this in the incorrect forum so am happy for a mod to move it if necessary. I last played MSFS when X came out, then real life got in the way and here we are. I have promised myself a Christmas present and have begun building a new PC for the task. Anyone who hasn't noticed the unmitigated fail on an 'unprecedented' scale by NVIDIA with the release of their new cards, has not been anywhere the internet. I, like seemingly millions of others have been waiting patiently for launch of the next generation RTX 3000 series cards, where I had my eye on the 3080 model which boasts better performance than the current 'top' performer the 2080ti. At about half the retail price. But of course the launch was a mess (did I mention this?) and nobody can get any cards several weeks later and nobody has a clue about if this will ever change. However: their competition in the graphics card space is the huge chip maker AMD, who are releasing their new 6000 series cards in a few weeks, nicknamed 'big navi'. Early reports (to be taken cautiously) is that the equivalent model to the 3080 is due to launch with 16Gb of video ram, which is quite a step up. After that long intro, here is my question and I hope others have it too. Part of the process of convincing my girlfriend that I need this in my life, was to promise her we will get a new TV for Christmas too. The new 2020 range of LG OLED TVs include an ability to talk directly to the NVIDIA cards using a tool called g-sync, built into the TVs which permit an eye-watering 120fps for a 65" TV. The port on the cards and TV are the new HDMI 2.1 standard so in theory we 'should' be able to play games in 4K. Bad news is there appear to be some very serious glitches with the LG side of things (I can explain if anyone is interested) meaning the TVs are NOT delivering like they were advertised, though I understand LG are working on a fix. If I take step back from all the madness and look at it, between the wild incompetence of NVIDIA who are clearly unable to do anything well aside from marketing, in concert with the hardware failure of the LG TVs, bearing in mind the worlds largest chip maker is about to launch something which may even be better, I have found myself asking if there isn't another solution here? Does anyone know if AMD are going to do anything in a collaboration with a TV maker to deliver anything similar? Or does anyone know if the g-sync feature on the TV will work with an AMD screen card? (This seems unlikely but you never know). TL/DR: NVIDIA and LG bad. AMD & (insert Tv maker here) good? Thanks!
September 28, 20205 yr AFAIK, G-sync is Nvidia only. AMD uses Freesync which I believe is also supported on 2020 LG models. Whether that AMD GPU is good for MSFS remains to be seen. There are no testresults yet. I expect they might be as fast as the 3080, or at least come close. In the past, my experiences with AMD GPU's were less good than with Nvidia's but where AMD can take advantage now is that 16GB vram, and off course, availability at launch. September 28, 20205 yr I think its fair to say that big Navi is going to be on par with the latest nvidia release performance wise. The one area that has always been a big unknown with AMD is the catalyst drivers. That is the one area they have always been hit and miss. A lot of people around the world are now glad that the bots stole the show. There is still quite a bit of time between now and Christmas to see how this all plays out, both on the video card and LG front, so you are in a good position to wait for the AMD Launch.

Without any benchmarks or confirmed specs? I'm certainly hoping so, but we won't know until the release. Formally screen name was Alex_YSSY until the forum software ate my account ^_^
