September 30, 20205 yr Hi all, Loaded up the demo and giving it a try. I'm able to request flight following and am given a transponder code, which I set, but don't receive a "radar contact". Is there something I need to do after setting the code & reading back? thanks H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
September 30, 20205 yr Commercial Member That sounds like the Transponder is not changing properly. If you're using MSFS you need to be sure that you have AI Control turned off in MSFS. Otherwise, you won't be able to change the XPDR code in the plane or in P2A. Also, be sure the transponder code is changing in both P2A and the aircraft. Dave

October 1, 20205 yr Author Hi again- Ok, experimenting a bit more. Using X-Plane - can't seem to get FF working properly. Trying to replicate this simple real-world flight: N14 > KWWD Depart N14 (uncontrolled) Contact KWRI (McGuire) for flight following Contact Atlantic City when directed Flight following cancelled when airport in sight -------------------------------------------------------- In X-Plane: After taking off, at about 1000 feet, I wasn't able to contact McGuire - no answer. Tried again a few times, and got FF just before getting near Atlantic City airspace. At the point I'd normally be contacting Atlantic City, I was told to contact Washington Center. I don't think I've ever spoken with Washington Center - Philadelphia ATC, but not Washington. Is there something I'm setting up "incorrectly"? I don't typically file a flight plan for this route. -------------------------------------------------------- Two thought regarding my own real-world flight: 1) I rarely (if ever) blind-call ATC - usually, just contact them, e.g. "McGuire approach, Cessna 12345" or "McGuire approach, Cessna 12345 with request" and wait for their response. Is there a way to do this? 2) I've never actually requested "VFR Flight Following", just "Flight Following." thanks H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
October 1, 20205 yr Commercial Member In P2A, if you file a VFR flight plan and request clearance, you will get flight following automatically. If you want to pick up flight following on the fly, or are departing from an uncontrolled airport, you should contact the nearest Center or Approach control after airborne for the initial request. The initial request can be something like "Approach, <CallSign> request flight following from Kilo November One Four to Kilo Whiskey Whiskey Delta at four thousand five hundred feet", or whatever the proper VFR altitude would be. You don't have to say VFR Flight following. You will then get passed off to various controllers, similar to an IFR flight. If you are on a short flight and getting passed to Center, you may need to increase your Departure and Approach controller radii to a larger number so they would overlap. So probably just increasing the Approach Controller radius might do it. Since P2A is not aware of real world ATC sector agreements/airspace ownership, the controllers you get will not necessarily be the same as real-world. January 10, 20215 yr Hi, I read some ware that airspace awareness like ATC sectors is on the roadmap for the future. Is that correct and if yes when can we hopefully test this new implementation?
January 10, 20215 yr Commercial Member It's on the roadmap, not in development. So it is not anytime in the near future and no date is set to start working on it.
