Confused about the "new" Motion Blur Setting

Featured Replies

It definitely makes panning smoother, I like it.

Same here. I'm now locking my frame rate rather than un-capped and the effect is very smooth motion, without judder. Locking to 33fps, which I know is a strange number is giving me, a near perfect, and stutter free output that other frame rates did not - 30fps was slightly messy. Running dev mode shows an almost spike free trace, and the motion blur makes panning look far more natural. Not that I whip my viewpoint around like a loon, but that little persistence helps to fill in the frames giving the illusion of a much higher fps. The other upside of locking lower, with blur enabled is a much more relaxed and cool PC, so I'm very happy with this new option.

Exactly. It's bizzare why some feel the need to complain about something they don't have to use 🤪

Yes, this can work - I am not technical enough to understand why. 🙂  But if you can't set a pre-rendered frame level, or don't know how to do it, asking for a few extra frames will sometimes help to smooth things out.

I used to lock FSX externally at 30 fps, but in the sim set it to render/produce 33.  It was very smooth.  When everything was set at 30 it used to drop frames occasionally.

Some things don't make sense, but ultimately, if you experiment and something works for you, then that is all that matters. 👍

PS.  I didn't expect that motion blur on ultra would do anything for me, and that it would be stupid, but there you go, works great for me.

I was also surprised that I am now on 4k at 80%, and the sim is smooth and looks superb now.  I was on 1440 at 120% before, and I had jaggies and some stuttering - really strange - it doesn't always go as you expect!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.
