Question about routing in Alaska with high terrain

Featured Replies

I'm doing some Alaska routes in the Q400.  The Anchorage to Alpine Airstrip route looks interesting to me.

However, when I try to create the same in Simbrief, I always get the FFITZ4 departure while all of the Conoco Phillips flights operated by Alaska air seem to depart straight north.  Any thoughts why that might be?

probably because the "real world flight" might be using the Anchorage Nine departure...the FFITZ departure is an RNAV departure and uses GPS way points.  Where as the Anc Nine is based on Nav Aids and basic Heading to Altitude then Turn for a Vector to route.

Based on the linked flight they have one waypoint in the flight and it is a "reporting" point....

So probably based on your "equipment" on SimBrief is giving you the best procedure for that...... if you look at the "routing" of the FFITZ you see that it brings you way out before you would head north....My guess is that the flight planning department looks at the weather and some other factors (SAVE SOME FUEL) and files it with the Anc9 🙂

Again speculation based on information available .....
