MSFS: GTX 1070 to 5700 XT is a no go...

Featured Replies

I was able to try out a 5700 XT to replace my GTX 1070 today, and I quickly realized that this was going to be a backwards move, unfortunately. FPS was slightly better with the 5700 XT (1-2 FPS) but the 5700 XT stutters like crazy. The FPS also jumps around a lot, going from 30 to 20 and then back rapidly, where I do not see anything like this with the GTX 1070. Image quality seems to be a bit better with the GTX 1070 as well, but I could be wrong.  Not a big fan of the AMD software either. Seemed to be pretty rudimentary compared to nvidia. Although I am sure the 6000 series AMD cards will be much improved I will just wait for the 3070.

Did you run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) before installing the 5700xt?

No, never even heard of that tool before. Is that likely to explain the performance issues?

Yap you have to remove all remains of nvidia or amd before switching. Ddu is the tool of choice. Me flying with a 5700 XT in msfs don't see any of the problems you encountered. About the amd software one can debate for sure 😉

cheers

It certainly could especially when switching graphics hardware vendors. A number of support sites (non-P3D) even suggest reinstalling Windows on a vendor change like you did. Also, see https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6315&t=126058 for more info on DDU. It is freeware.
