Flight Director G1000/30000

Featured Replies

Long time lurker, rare poster....

Anyway, is it just me or does the flight director not seem to work in the Working Title G1000/G3000?  It works for vertical navigation, but not lateral navigation unless the a/p is engaged.  If I have FD on, NAV on, and the CDI in the PFD set to GPS/FMS, the flight path shows in the CDI, but the flight director just remains level until I engage the a/p.  Then, it turns towards the flight path.  Am I missing something, or does it not function correctly?

Thanks!

Agree, the FD does not seem to provide lateral guidance with the AP off. If the FD is on, it should provide steering commands to the pilot if the AP is off, and steering commands to the AP if the AP is on.

Yes, the flight director is the actual “brain” of the autopilot, and when activated should always display lateral and vertical steering commands on the PFD, either coming from the FMS/Nav system or in response to manual adjustments of heading or vertical speed on the guidance panel. The only difference between autopilot “on” or “off” is that when “on” the aileron and elevator servos engage to apply the flight director commands to the control surfaces.
