December 17, 20205 yr I’ve been asking myself lately if the landing/touchdown sounds in the sim are too harsh? I landed the 172 the other day while on a NeoFly mission and the app reported a touch down of 24 fpm, you would think that’s pretty “buttered” 🤩 but the in sim sound was the usual hard thump! I wonder what real life pilots here think? Or anyone else for that matter...
December 17, 20205 yr I am a jet guy, but have flown a 172 and Pipers. Landing in those may not be as loud depending on the touch down. But in heavier jets, you tend to hear all kinds of shaking, rattling and creaking during touch down or taxi for that matter. The DC10 and the Gulfstreams are that way. You hear the cabinets, doors and seats chatter and squeak as you land, taxi and takeoff. Even if it feels soft on touch down, if there is some left to right swaying like in a crosswind, you will hear the squeaks and creaks. Even nose wheels make bangs and chatter as you hit bumps, cracks and lights. I do love the variation of sounds that the nose wheel makes during takeoff and landings. Especially on grooved runways. You also hear it as it spools down after lift off and comes into the gear well. I once heard the nose wheel still spinning in a DC10 passing 10,000ft. The spin pads in the nose well were worn out out allowing it to keep spinning for longer periods. Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
December 17, 20205 yr Touchdown sounds, ailerons and elevator movements are all too loud in the c152 as well. Oddly, I find the flap sounds a bit quiet. December 17, 20205 yr Depending on the landing, in FS2020 I sometimes get a tyre squelch or slight thump but more often than not just rattles and tyre noise. Crosswind and short field landings tend to be louder. This clip of a steam gauge 172 landing at LFOU is sort of typical of what I get with a landing with a touch of power on (note it looks like a floaty landing but the there is a downwind slope on the runway). Definitely a bit of noise but I would not call it that excessive compared to real life. Real World c172s are rattily noisy things. Note if I recall correctly, when you do the classic 172 "cheat" of pulling the yoke right back till the stall alarm goes off and dropping onto the runway you do get a thump of sorts. Not super loud though. Edited December 17, 20205 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick

The landing I mentioned was on a grass field wonder if that makes a difference? I like to keep a trickle of power on in the Cessnas if the runway is long enough. Grass does seem louder but you do not get the tyre squelch you get on bitumen if your not lined up. I do not have any clips of c172 landings on grass but this one is a Jabiru on the grass runway at NZRO that I recorded a while back. You will notice the roll out is louder which is true to real life, gravel strips are even worse. For COMPARISON, here is a landing in a real Jabiru on gravel that found on Youtube ... I leave power in on the 182, but pull it back much more and sooner on the 172. 38 minutes ago, Glenn Fitzpatrick said: Jabiru on the grass runway at NZRO that I recorded a while back. This is more what I would expect... of course it might just be my bad technique! 😜 Does anyone out there ever experience a pure “squeaker” in MFS?
