I cannot figure out what is wrong with my GTN.  It never has booted properly and just shows a black screen.  Here is the log file with plenty of errors.  Can anyone make a suggestion on what to do?

It looks like an error with the trainer. Update/re-install the GTN trainer from Garmin most likely will help.

What video card do you have installed?

"ERROR] GL 1.5+ required"   seems to indicate a missing video component..

I have a GTX1050Ti installed and have updated all the drivers.  Now I get a much simpler message.

I installed the latest Garmin trainers following the install program of Reality-XP.  When I reviewed the manual, the path to the trainer .exe is different than in manual. 

The manual shows:

"Set the general trainer application path, that is where the trainer is installed:
GTNSIMPATH="C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\bin" (Trainer v6.50+)..."

The acutal path to the executable is  C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\launcher/aviation_trainer_launcher.exe

How (and where) do I change the path to the launcher?  I read the info on the "environment variables" in the footnote and tried there without success.

My recommendation is that you fully uninstall both the RXP GTN and the Garmin Trainer.  Download the RXP eCommerce installer from the RXP product page. Reinstall, allowing the RXP install process to call up the Garmin Trainer installation process.  Use the default locations for both products. 

DO NOT use an RXP update installer.  Use the full eCommerce installer.  That will lead you through the eCommerce wrapper at the F1 website and will get your licensing information in place.  So have your email address and password ready.  Depending on your previous number of installations/attempts you may need to use the reactivate process at F1.  You can find that link in the first paragraph at the top of the View F1 Orders page.   You use that page even if you purchased from the RXP web site.

I have the same problem, in my case with the GTN 750. In X-Plane, it shows the bezel but the screen is black. The log says the same:

One additional piece of information. When I installed RXP GTN 750, it launched the Garmin trainer setup for version 2.7.10, which is the one that seems to be required. However, the Garmin setup started and showed this message saying:

Action Plan

There is an updated installer that is required to download packages. Please click the button below to proceed.

The only buttons available are "Back", which does not install it, and "Update Installer", which installs version 3.0.

I proceeded with Update installer, and the Garmin Trainer was installed, but then RXP GTN 750 complains with that error in the log file.

Is there another way to install the required version of the trainer?

I found a solution. I uninstalled the Garmin Trainer and downloaded another version from the link provided in the RXP README:

It works now.

I have tried installing the older installer, but keep getting an error 1721:

Action: DirectXSetup, location F:\SETUPEXEDIR\...\dxsetup.exe /silent

 

Does anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

I managed to get the older simulator installed. It turns out  I was running "Garmin GTN Trainer.msi", rather than "setup.exe" in the "\GTN_GDU620PCTrainer_6211\GTN_Trainer_Disc_Contents\Trainer" folder.

Once I did that then it installed ok. Note that you get prompted to update to a later version, but currently you have to ignore that otherwise you're back to the latest (currently broken) version.

Unfortunately the older version goes back to the old keyboard (a scrolling line of characters, rather than a Qwerty keyboard. Still, it will do for now, until RXP fixes the compatibility with the new simulator.
