Alderney island of (Bailiwick of Guernsey)....up-close...

Featured Replies

This is a follow-up post to my earlier one from a (virtual) visit of "Alderney" - the small 3 square miles island, that is the 3rd-largest of the Channel Islands archipelago in the English Channel, off the North West coast of France. "Aurigny" is also the French word for the island of Alderney. Alderney is the northernmost of the (8) inhabited Channel Islands. It may be a (little-known) tiny island, but it packs a punch, in term of spectacularly natural beauty, with breathtakingly rugged cliffs and coastlines (see images), and, of course, because of  its strategic location, an abundance of history (ancient and modern, of kings and castles...etc.). Alderney's 2000 (or so) current inhabitants (see an image, below, of the township), sure wish to keep their lifestyle secret and peaceful (I'm with their sentiments..., and glad, my visit, here, is unobtrusive and virtual...🙂...).

Among its many pristine and sandy beaches, one is Braye Beach located on its northern coastline. (There, on the Braye beach, with the golden sunlight, beaming down, I wished to call it a day, today,...🙂..., see one image, below, before darkness fell, and the tiny island, myself included, lost ourselves in it...🙂...).

BTW, if one is adventurous enough, in normal times, one could fly to Alderney, with Aurigny Air. Aurigny is the flag carrier of Guernsey. Its fleet mostly consists of ATR turboprops, but, I've shown below, couple of images of one of its parked (AI) Do-228, on the Alderney airport ramp. The Airline, with its lovable "Puffin" bird logo on the tail (looks a bit like a Penguin...), has been always one of my favorites, and I've flown (fictitious) flights with this livery, on many other parts of the world...e.g. Courchevel and Lukla come to mind...(thanks to the (attractive) Carenado repaints, easily available for them...).

So, hope you enjoy the below sample of images, I've gathered, here, while (virtually) touring around this unique island, at closer range, than was afforded to me by the Bellanca Viking, of my earlier post. Thanks, of course, go to my (virtual) companion and guide, "Bob"...!

Have a great New Year..!!

John, thanks a lot..!

Yes, glad, I stayed for the night...🙂...though it's no substitute for the "real" thing...🙂....

It must be now already approaching New Year on the Alderney Island...

Nice set! Don't think I've seen anyone post this here. Always enjoy yours! Keep'em coming.
