HSI Magenta Line?

Featured Replies

I've just installed the Lear 35A last version for my new P3Dv5. I used this acft  for some years in FSX and P3Dv4. I was very excited to use her again in the new Sim. I started the first flight, of course, trying and struggling to remember details, following my checklist. The something got stuck and I could not find how and where to turn from green to magenta the HSI line, as the GTN750 was in GPS mode.

I also noted that the AP appeared a green lighted LRN button at the side of NAV button, when I pressed the AP/NAV button in order to follow the GTN750 magenta line of my route.

I sure remember the HSI line could change from green to magenta in the versions before P3Dv5.

Any help, please?

The LRN Nav light on the AP indicates you have captured the GPS course. My understanding is the LRN (Long Range Navigation) designation is a hold over from an earlier low frequency navigation system -- LORAN.

If you are talking about the green HSI course pointer, it does not change color in this aircraft (and never has). Remember the HSI in the Lear35A is a mechanical gauge. Aircraft with glass HSI gauges can change the color of the course pointer to indicate if you are in VLOC or GPS modes, but not in an aircraft with a 'steam gauge' HSI.

Hi Ark,

Thanks a lot for clarifying the LRN and refreshing my memory, remembering me the gauge is mechanical. Too many aircraft and too much technology mixed in a single computer world.

For coincidence, when I wrote this, I was flying and some 15 minutes ago I made the final at the ILS 35 of Garden City KGCK. The GS appeared in the HSI and guided the plane till landing. No need for magenta lines.
