VC View Oddity

Featured Replies

I have to admit, that while I am enjoying MSFS it is becoming extremely frustrating for me not to still get to grips with the camera system. Yes, I understand the principles and can create a custom view etc, but no matter what I do, it seems when I try to create a customised VC pilot view, for some reason that I simply cannot understand, it reverts to some previous view that I have not created. All my views are assigned to my PFC yoke and an Xbox controller. So the comntroller is for external views and the buttons on the yoke for internal views. When I click to go to an external view that's fine, but when I then click a button on the yoke to return to the customised VC view, it is another view. I then have to click again to get to my customised view. It's probably easier to watch the YouTube video than me trying to explain it, but I hope the issue is clearly shown. It would seem logical to assume that the assignment is being duplicated somewhere else, but I have gone down that road and can't see any other duplicated views. Is this me,  or is anyone else having these problems??

Yes I had the exact same problem. By reverting to an older controller profile it is cured. I never could determine what the problem was. But your problem is not just on your system since I had it too.

Hi, I thought it was something to do with a profile, but I have gone through things rigorously and still not been able to ascertain the issue. Silly as it may seem, this little annoyance is becoming extremely annoying. I hope I can fathom the issue soon. Thanks again.

I've had issues with view system as well.  Seems like the toggle includes a random third view sometimes.  I'd bet its similar to keys that should not do anything in a certain camera mode actually having an effect on things like when Im in the VC with autopilot on and I press a numerical keypad key which shouldnt do anything because I have nothing programmed but yet the plane will start spinning out of control sometimes.

Ive learned not to touch things 🙂  its ridiculous.

There's always a sunset happening somewhere in the world that somebody is enjoying.

None of these issues seemed to be present in the first several months of MSFS. One of the updates must have introduced it.

Can you expand on this please... as I have gone round the houses with different profiles.

I had 3 or 4 similar profiles for my Warthog stick and keyboard, for some odd reason the one I was currently using did the same thing you mentioned, I think. So I went back earlier profiles for the keyboard (went back to 'default'), and to the one below for the stick.

I also have 4 other controllers for autopilots and radios and so forth, including a Warthog throttle, which is why I only have views on the stick. The rest is mapped on other controllers.

Anyway this works for me as in the diagram.

This works every time reliably for me no matter which view mode I am currently in.

Button 4 is a tall flipper on which the pinkie finger is always in front of and ready to push by just closing your fist. This will induce a 'shift' and swap commands on every single hat and button to alternate 'shift' commands. MSFS provides for creating 'shift' commands in their controls window by allowing you to click 'select input' and then you push 2 buttons instead of 1 button and then CONFIRM). One button is whatever you choose to be your 'shift' button and then any other button where you want the actual command to reside.

Notice the index button 5 has both toggle Cockpit/External view and toggle Cockpit view. This is because toggle c/e view will reliably bring up the External view always, but not necessarily bring up the Cockpit view. So I use shift +5 to reliably bring up that External view. And 5 to reliably bring up the Cockpit view. Doing it this way never fails to load the view regardless of what view mode I am in before.

The 3 button will always bring up the Drone view reliably every time.

The 2 button resets the cockpit view (it never fails) to the default Cockpit view. I also set another command on the same button: 'reset External view'. So either in Cockpit or External view, the default view wIll reset. (MSFS allows putting as many commands as you want onto the same button, and so I put those 2 commands on button 2).

So let's say I am in the main pilots view but now I want to see the instruments, maybe the radio stack or EFIS or trim wheel or the pedals. I just flip the top (coolie) hat down and then I am in instrument view #1. Usually the plane designer makes that the main instrument view. From there I just flip the H hat (the Thumb Hat) up and it will cycle (i.e. Next Instrument View command) all the instrument views the designer has made: main instruments, pedals, EFIS left, EFIS right, levers, flap position, or whatever all the designer has created. To get back to the pilots view I just hit 2 (reset).

Sounds complicated but it is just two presses: down on the coolie hat and up on the H hat and all the nice instrument views cycle for me and I can get back to the main pilots view with the 2 (reset) button.

Custom Views:

I just trigger the shift key by closing my fist which trips lever 4 and push the coolie hat up. Bingo a new custom view is SAVED.  Now to get back to that custom view at any time later, I just push the coolie hat UP without flipping the shift lever.

That's the first thing I do in a new plane I fly: set a new custom pilot view (usually a landing view). Pushing 2 gives the default pilots view OR pushing coolie hat UP gives my newly created pilots view. I can switch back and forth between them that way.

The other two hats are for moving the viewpoint (eyepoint and pan). The Castle hat has all 6 eyepoint movements (up down right left in out). And the Ladder hat has all the pan views up down left right.

Hi Fielder, thanks for tsking the time to  reply, it's very much appreciated. You're right though, it does sound a little complicated!  but I will re-read your post later when I'm sat at my sim. I do think though the issue I have may stem from having all my cockpit views as saved customised views. I just hope Chaseplane is released soon! Thanks again.
