Swiss MD-11 across Southern Spain...(Part II)

Featured Replies

Here, in this Part II, I pick up, where I'd left off, in my previous post, on my (virtual) MD-11 trip, having indicated, an impromptu diversion to be made, at the discretion of "yours truly", after reaching cruise altitude (FL290), see the second screenshot below, bit off-track (north), towards the the Sierra Nevada (‘Snowy Mountain’) range. This range is one of the most famous mountain ranges in Spain, located in the southern province of Andalusia, boasting the highest point in continental Spain, Mulhacén, (at 11,413 ft above sea level). In winter, the Sierra Nevada is a popular skiing destination within close reach of some of Spain’s most beautiful cities such as Granada and Seville. After MD-11's "LNAV" has been disabled (in similar way to Airbus SIMs, one click on the HDG knob to remove the Dashes), and manually controlling HDG towards/over these mountains, I've shown a few images, below, from MSE, of overflying the highest ridges of this range.

After the excursion, I've redirected myself back to my original flight-plan (see SimBrief MAP, in Part I), to rejoin the track at the next upcoming Waypoint (ADRAS), by use of DIR-TO function (the key labeled [DIR INTC] on this FMS). The plane faithfully cooperating with this simmer's intention (see image of the nice ND display showing the turn for this DIR-TO action, along with the automatically inserted turn-point (T-P), also shown). Such action, in flight, is always good fun, and builds trust in the behavior of the (SIM) plane, for someone like me...🙂...! I've also checked the "PROF" function for this plane's unique method of "VNAV", for a descent to 4000 ft, at an user pre-defined LAT/LONG waypoint, ~30nms from Alicante. See screenshot of ND with the vertical deviation indicator, confirming bottom of descent at this custom waypoint (N38W001). The announcements and the ND-flashing-signs, on this plane, at T/D, prior to "PROF" activates (and descent begins), are also a bit different from normal...(appearing curious, but pleasing, to this non-Pilot mind...)...

Hope you enjoy the set of images, below, of this Swiss MD-11, arriving at Alicante–Elche Airport (LEAL), after, minimally, a (virtual) flight, as they say, from Point A to Point B, has been successfully completed with the plane...🙂...

Thanks for viewing...!!

Superb shots, and great landing!!  No bounce! Or none that was admitted to anyway :biggrin:

Strange that you mention the Sierra Nevadas. I mentioned in part one that I'd been playing with Train Simulator recently; I've been rumbling over the other Sierra Nevadas with large freight trains! Specifically the Donner Pass in California.
