Finally had a good chance to start with MSFS

Featured Replies

I was in the last couple of weeks of the MSFS beta. I thought it was a really great simulator that still needed a ton of spit and polish before it would ready for me to really start using it. I fly jets. MSFS sorta does, but not like I need it to. I think everyone on here understands the nuts and bolts of that. The primary reason I bought it is that I have been learning Blender recently, and I was going to play around with creating some objects in the sim. The second reason is that I built a new system recently, and every version of Flight Simulator ever released has been my gold standard in diagnostic testing. If a system will run Flight Simulator maxed out without dying, it ain't broken. MSFS2020 certainly lives up to that. I've seen it using all 10 cores of my 10850K in a heavy, but balanced manner. My system is locked at 5.0Ghz, so when FS gets working hard the 5 fans crank up so much they almost start sliding my computer across the floor.

I noticed what FlyByWire was doing with the a32NX and decided that it was worth taking a look at. I've been waiting for a good Airbus for years. Yes I know, but they are on my vendor black list for ethics violations. I finally bought MSFS a couple of weeks ago, which continues my perfect record. I've had them all (I need to put myself on the ethics black list, because I owe an apology to Sublogic. I just copied the school's copy of all 3 versions of it for myself. They hadn't really invented DRM yet. So, sorry Sublogic, I never gave you a nickle. I was a minor back then. I have learned my lesson.). I loaded the FlyByWire developer version Saturday morning and I have had a good chance to play with it. Needless to say, I am shocked. In a good way. They have done a marvelous job so far. The Simbrief integration is top notch. It loads everything for you. Fuel, PAX and cargo load, flight plan, the works. The only thing I haven't seen it do so far is populate the CI. They just added a flyPad (EFB) to it. It looks great. Not everything works, but they're still working on it, They truly are getting it right. The latest developer version actually prints out the METARs on the pedestal printer. You can read the METARs while the paper is hanging out of the printer, but if you click on it, it will move to above the throttles on the console like it was torn off and set there. You can stack multiple slips of paper on the console and page through them.

I'm going to say this right now. If FBW or someone like them does this to the default Boeings in the MSFS, the payware developers are in trouble. IMO, in it's current state, the FBW a32NX is about 80-85% of the way to being as useful to me in MSFS as the NGXu is in P3D. If the Boeings also get up to a similar level, I'm switching over 100%. Asobo did fantastic models. There's nothing to complain about there. I understand that FBW could make the changes that they did because the default a320 was somehow unique in how it was distributed. I think the Boeings are compiled or encrypted differently. FBW said Asobo had been working with them. Makes me wonder if Asobo will change the Boeings so that someone else could update them?

So I guess this officially puts me in transition phase.

I assume you also tried the experimental version with the custom FBW? If not, you have too!

And wait for the custom AP, custom ATHR and the custom engine model, it is coming soon I guess 😉

If you mean the 787? I don't think they will unlock it due the premium only availability.

For 747, there is another mod called Salty but honestly I didn't follow it for a while since long haul is not my interest. https://github.com/saltysimulations/salty-747

Also, I highly recommend to check the WorkingTitle mod for the CJ4, this one is getting closer to be a complex business jet airliner  https://github.com/Working-Title-MSFS-Mods/fspackages/tree/main/docs/workingtitle-cj4

Will do. Love it.

At this rate it looks like the only thing we have to spend money on is updating airports. I can live with that.

I did my first flight with the A32NX and I was impressed. They did a very good with this mod. It was actually following the flightplan and VNAV was actually behaving like it was supposed too. Kudos to them.
