MSFS wants me to redownload the whole thing - Help!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Having been using the sim since the SU3 without any issues. Did a flight yesterday without any issues. No CTDs.

Started it up this morning and after it checked for updates I get this:

MSFSREINSTALL

Now I haven't clicked on update as I want to make absolutely sure that I don't delete the data already installed. Also FYI it is an MS Store installation, not steam

I have checked the Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and it is sized at 124Gb so I assume all the stuff is still there.

Has anyone experienced this or have a fix for this? I would really want to avoid a redownload as I have my connection cost me per Gb downloaded, it is also not very fast and it could take days.

Cheers,

asnamara

I suggest doing a search in these forums about a post on how to reinstall you sim (if your Asobo assets are still there), something like "re-installing MSFS in minutes".

Is the install location in that screenshot correct? did you install in the default location in c drive or did you install itn in anotherr drive or folderlike C:\MSFS ? If so, just change the location to your locatioon where you had installed earlier and the install would pick of from where it left off.

IF its displaying the correct location where you hd installed earlier. That is strange.

Did you log into the MSStore with the right id and everything?

Thanks Manny! You're a legend! I just looked at old screenshots I took of the original install. The original was:

"Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe"

the wrong path in the screenshot in my original post is:

"Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages"

I have no idea why MSFS changed it on its own!! The only Mod I have is the WT CJ4 and flew it no problems last night. Just shutdown after the flight. Started the sim up this morning and this problem appeared.

Immediately on changing the path to the original, the issue was solved.

This sim has some strange quirks.

Thanks again Manny, I was getting worried sick for a moment there!

Cheers!

It's good you did not panic nd do something in a hurry and came here while looking for a solution.

The same thing happened to me, guess what I did? Like an idjiat, I hit enter and continued the install in the wrong location (the second install deviating from my initial install) and then abanded it midway and restarted the install this time, pointing to the initial install and it went quick and I think it fixed it.

the second thing you did right was, You saved the screenshot of the initial install location. That was amazing.
