December 25, 200619 yr I am guessing that most aircraft do work.I am guessing that most scenery will NOT work because of the lack of a AFCAD program. So the big question - what panels work?In addition, what freeware/payware aircraft with vc's work?I am getting a little bored with the default ac. My Posky 737ng's imported fine but I am getting sick of the default panel with no cockpit side views. Scenery MAY work...you don't need an "FSX AFCAD" to just bring in the BGL's and associated textures. You just need to do the importing in a manner that lets you test it and decide if it's OK or not befoe moving on to import another scenery package. I have several that I moved over from FS9. In one case I had to create an "exclude" to remove the FSX default airport and autogen but others worked OK as is. Aircraft...best to try bringing in those that have VC's. Since the neutering of the 2D cockpit by Aces, the lack of side/diagonal BMP's does make the case for a VC. Three aircraft I can recommend can be found by following links at the Classic British Flight Sim site, cbfsim.org. Dave Maltby's BAC 1-11-400/500 series and his Tridents. Rick Piper's HS.748. They have very nice VC's and work well in FSX. I've also imported an Embrarer Tucano, ERJ-170, a Mig-15, A330-200 and -300 models ( but had to redo the 2D and VC gauges ). Panels that use XML gauges, those contained in a seperate folder or CAB file will most likely work with FSX. Paul
December 26, 200619 yr There are several posts on the forum covering aircraft that work and don't work. You'll need to find replacement gauges for any FS98 gauges (i.e. Bill Lyons' aircraft tend to use a lot). But I've transferred quite a few. When importing FS9 terrain, make sure to obtain the updated terrain.cfg file available here at Avsim. otherwise, any ground polys will be drawn at 0 MSL, causing big holes in the scenery. Otherwise, FS9 afcads seem to work just fine. They won't have ground traffic or any other FSX features, but they work.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
December 26, 200619 yr You might want to try the Georender scenery-I am partial to the tetons:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=249400&page=There is going to be an upgrade for fsx-it will be even better!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 26, 200619 yr Thanks. I installed the HS748. The only problem I have (aside from having to copy all of the vc textures to each individual texture folder) is that there is an issue with what appear to be the landing lights. I am getting while boxes between the engines and the wing tips.Any other add ons? How about the CLS stuff, Overland or Aerosim? Has anybody tried the Premier Aircraft Twin Otters, POSKY's ac with vc's...Thanks again. I know I saw a thread about this but it died a while ago. In addition, most of the other information is embedded in threads of other topics. It would be nice to have a running list. I am getting while boxes between the>engines and the wing tips.> That appears to be a result of a missing effects texture "cs_1.bmp" I can't find it on my system either and get the "white squares". Here's a quick fix. Substitute a different landing light effect in the aircraft.cfg file. I used "fs_landing"//light.9=5, -1.8, 45.381, 0.373, HS748_land , light.9=5, -1.8, 45.381, 0.373, fx_landing ,//light.10=5, -1.8, -45.381, 0.373, HS748_land ,light.10=5, -1.8, -45.381, 0.373, fx_landing , Paul
