Does the RTX 3060 12GB cut it?

@BostonJeremy77, it wasn't meant as a criticism, just an observation. Sorry if you took it that way.

If your laptop has an HDMI port which I'm sure it has, have you considered buying a 27" 2560*1440 monitor? You could plug that into your laptop and have a much larger display. A couple of settings may need to be reduced but the advantage of a larger screen would surely outweigh the disadvantages.

The chances of buying a 3090 in the short to medium term are close to zero.

Oh, no worries. I don't get offended easily. 😉 I am just fine. Just a discussion. 😉

Nah, I haven't considered. Basically with my Predator Helios 300 (10th Gen Intel i9, RTX 2060 6Gb, 16 GB RAM at 3200 (definitely gonna bump it up to 32 soon)), I am getting ACCEPTABLE performance in both MSFS (on 1080p, all Ultra settings) and P3D (mix of Medium to Ultra, all 4K textures, Orbx-recommended distances and all that junk)... Which is about 30-40 FPS in most cases. I shudder to think what upping my resolution would do to frame rates if I were to keep my settings the same (and I wouldn't dial them down, or what's the point of a bigger display?)... So unless I DO get a system with all that stuff, including a 3090 (I imagine buying a PC with it ALREADY there is much easier than finding a stand-alone card), I don't see the point. Plus, I am pretty happy with what I have.

MSFS is DX11, P3D is DX12 so it's an apples to oranges comparison. Once MSFS goes to DX12 which is HEAVILY influenced by amount of VRAM you have on your GPU, it will be a whole different ballgame. That'd why I have a 3090 with 24GB of it, nothing will stop it VRAM wise.

Yup. Thought about it too! Once MSFS goes DX12, I will probably need to invest into a 30xx laptop.

You don’t need 4K textures running at FullHD. I made the suggestion because the immersion would be so much better with a larger display. Yes, fps would go down but not by half.

And when you do eventually get a new system having a second monitor for moving maps etc. is very useful.

Thing is... the 4K textures are noticeable to me when zooming in close on some virtual cockpits. They develop blurry character when you downgrade textures to 2K and 1K. It's especially noticeable in A2A's Bonanza as well as MilViz KingAir 350.

That is surprising especially when you’re using a 15” display.

I thought so too... I mean, it's a pretty EXTREME zoom-in, but... I like my textures sharp. Bonanza is BY FAR the best example of it.
