Thanks for that, you can never be too careful :)

The first attempt, installing over the top of the previous installation, Databases.Setup.msi appeared to run fine, as no errors popped up.

GTN.Setup.msi gave the same error, and this is what was in the log file (same as before)

Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: InstallDirectX, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\DirectX9.0c\dxsetup.exe, command: /silent
=== Logging stopped: 10/04/2021  20:40:09 ===

I then uninstalled RealityXP and Garmin Aviation trainers. and manually removed the usual folders.

Databases.Setup.msi again ran with no errors.

GTN.Setup.msi gave the same error (Screenshot)

The log "MSIc1715.LOG" contained the following text

I've had a thought, do you think it'd be of any use for me to run sfc /scannow in command prompt?

Running sfc /scannow found corrupted files and successfully repaired them, I had a look at the CBS.log and didn't understand it, and it's 32,883 lines long so if you want to take a look at it let me know, and i'll see where I can upload it.

I'm in the process of running "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" and it's been sat at 55.5% for 5 to 10 minutes now.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Has finished its work, and has determined that "No component store corruption detected"

Alrighty, i've restarted the PC, and upon startup Windows decided to check my F:\ drive for errors (N.B. I'm only trying to install things on the C:\ drive at the moment, the F:\ drive shouldn't be affecting our issues).

Re-ran sfc /scannow and this time, I got "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.".

Tried once again to run "GTN.Setup.msi" and got the usual error, the contents of the MSIabcde.LOG file are below.

Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. This is really puzzling, but at least you've ensured there shouldn't be any system file integrity problem.

Can you please remind me what windows build version you're running?

Indeed, one less thing to worry about :)

Windows 10 Pro

Version 20H2

OS Build 19042.867

Please allow me some time to figure out a solution and ways to install it. I'm sorry the Garmin trainer is not installing as expected.

Of course, no worries :)

I'm sure we'll be able to figure it out, sorry it's causing so much trouble.

Hi Jean-Luc,

Have you had any further thoughts on this issue?

Hi,

I've been looking at different options and a few reported DX installation failures online, but I really don't see what could prevent this on your system.

In any case, I've just sent you a PM with something to try out.
