Program Files (x86) contains two folders Launcher and Packages and as far as I can see there is nothing to do with "DirectX9.0c"

That could be your problem.

No worries :)

Uninstall via Windows Settings

I've ran the uninstall (via the Control Panel/Windows Settings) on the following programs (screenshot)

Garmin Aviation Trainers (Successful uninstall)

Garmin Aviation Trainers (Error, I think this might be referring to the old install on the H Drive (dead HDD) (screenshot))

RealityXP Garmin GTN (X-Plane) (Successful Uninstall)

So now the Uninstall window in the Windows settings looks like this (screenshot)

Manually deleting folders

C:\Program Files (x86) - Nothing to delete (no Garmin folder)

C:\ProgramData - Garmin folder deleted, contained no files, but had the following folders (screenshot)

C:\Users\Oscar\AppData\Local - Nothing to delete (no Garmin folder)

Running the installer

Running the rxpGTN-XPL-Setup.exe located in C:\RealityXP

Deselecting X-Plane 10 Plugin and X-Plane 0 plugin (leaving only X-Plane 11 plugin) in the "Select Components" stage.

X-Plane 11 Path auto-fills to the same folder where the X-Plane executable is.

Ticked "Install the Garmin GTN/TXI Pc Trainer Update

Under additional tasks, deselected all, apart from "Check whether this is the most recent installer", I get a popupthat says "You're up to date!" 2.5.28.2 is currently the newest version available.

Get shown the Ready to Install screen (Screenshot 1, and Screenshot 2.

The Garmin window pops up and goes through the install of the Garmin Aviation Trainers.

Once that's finished, the installer goes back to installing RealityXP Garming GTN, and appears to copy all the files over correctly, and it's only when it gets to "Please wait while Windows configures Garmin GTN Trainer" that the issue pops up (screenshot).

Clicking OK on that error, brings up the "Setup has finished installing RealityXP Garmin GTN..." (Screenshot)

Looking in my Temp folder for a log, I can see MSI38f01.LOG (Contents below)

Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: InstallDirectX, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\DirectX9.0c\dxsetup.exe, command: /silent
=== Logging stopped: 10/04/2021  12:12:15 ===

For completeness, loading up X-Plane and the default Cessna 172, i've got Reality XP GTN in the plugins list, and when I bring up either the GTN 750 or GTN 72, the window pops up, but the screen is blank (see the screenshot in the original post).

If you need any more info from me, i'd be happy to provide, thanks for your support with this Tony :)

I am very much afraid that you have now exceeded my limits of knowledge. and regretfully, I do not thing I can help you any further. I will, however, continue to watch this and if I can do anything further for you I shall chip in.

I think Jean Luc has gone to bed for now but I am sure he will chip in to do what he can.

Best of luck with regrets.

No worries Tony, thanks for trying :)

Did it install at least GTN Simulator.exe (and a bunch of .DLL files) in the following folder?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\bin

It is peculiar an error: the Garmin trainer installer seems to be halting because it can't run the DirectX 9 setup.

For now, the only option I see is manually installing the DirectX setup first, and proceed with the installation of the GTN again.

You can download and install DirectX from Microsoft from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

You might want to also download and install the legacy DirectX setup, just in case it is helping:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Once DirectX setup is done, the Garmin trainers installer should skip over it and continue normally.

Hi Jean-Luc,

I don't have a packages folder at all, i've just got DirectX0.0C and Launcher (screenshot)

I uninstalled everything just like I did in my post earlier, and manually deleted the folders where needed.

I tried to install DirectX from your first link, and it said DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version is already installed (screenshot)

Then installed the legacy DirectX setup which extracted some files into a folder of my choice, and I ran "DXSetup.exe" from those files, which successfully installed the legacy DiretcX (screenshot)

I then installed RealityXP again, , and recieved the same error as before. Ther latest log in my Temp folder has the following info

=== Logging stopped: 10/04/2021  18:09:52 ===

And again, within the Trainers folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers) i've only got a DirectX9.0c and a Launcher folder, there is no "Packages" folder,

There is definitely something on your system which is unusual, or at least I've never seen such problem with the Garmin trainers before.

Let's cross-check a few things:

- Do you have the following installed on your drive though?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\DirectX9.0c\dxsetup.exe

- What about running it?

- Is there a way you can provide the entire log file and not just the last line?

Running dxsetup.exe in the DirectX9.0c folder (screenshot) is successful, it doesn't specify what version of DirectX it's installing, but I get an "Installation Complete" window.

That is the entirety of the log in my Temp folder, i've uploaded it here if you want to take a look. https://ufile.io/gdihh7n9

I'm sorry but I can't use this host. The log file size is only about 700KB, can you just copy/paste the content in a forum message instead? (please make sure to wrap the content with the "eye" icon next to "Font" drop down in the message toolbar. This is the "spoiler" feature to keep the message collapsed.

Sure, here's the full contents of MSI21bed.log (And a screenshot)

I thought there would be other lines before! So this doesn't tell much more for now.

Let me think of something and search a little, I'll come back later here.

Indeed, it's not a very helpful log, haha.

No worries, thank you very much for your time so far :)

Ok here is what you can try:

1) open this topic:

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/568302-10apr21-gtn-trainer-download-links/

2) download all individual database components (Database.Setup.msi + DBs#.cab files)

3) download the GTN Garmin Trainer 6.62.4 installer (GTN.Setup.msi)

NB: you don't need the launcher for the RXP GTN

4) once all is downloaded in the same folder, double-click Database.Setup.msi. It will silently install.

5) then double-click GTN.Setup.msi to install this version of the GTN trainer. It will also silently install.

Let me know if this works!

I'll give that a shot, can I just confirm that I need to uninstall RealityXP & Garmin Aviation Trainers and (and delete folders) before I try this?

Edited by Flamesies
Spelling & added clarity

You shouldn't have to uninstall anything. You can try installing over first, and if installation fails, only then you might want to uninstall the Trainer(s) and try installing again. The RXP installation is independent of the trainer installation in any case.

PS: of course you'll have to download the latest DB components (the ones under GTN Trainer Launcher 3.0.1.0 with AIRAC 2004)
