April 10, 20215 yr Hi, I have a i5-4460, with 8Gb ram and a GTX 770. This gives a playable MS2020 Sim with what I feel are traditional graphics but not the photo realistic type stuff I have seen on twitch / youtube etc. I usually run 1080 but would like to get to 1440. I have just ordered another 8Gb ram, and have been considering a GTX 970, but unsure as I am guessing the CPU will become a bottleneck and I'll be no better off. Grateful for thoughts on the best value GPU upgrade, and options for a stepwise upgrade path. My current mobo is https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z97P-D3-rev-10/support#support-cpu and Im not sure a CPU upgrade will do a huge amount unless I go for a new mobo and much newer CPU line...... Many thanks for thoughts. Justin
April 10, 20215 yr I had a GTX 970 and a GTX 1080, both running at 1440p. The former can't handle 1440p decently, so I moved to the latter and it performed well. I don't use the GTX1080 on MSFS, but this benchmark may help you to estimate frames per second at WQHD.
April 11, 20215 yr Author Useful info thanks, Would buying a GTX 1080 or 1660ti give clear benefits if the CPU stays 4460?

Although MSFS is more GPU-bound than CPU-bound, it might bottlenecks on i5-4460. This video shows high CPU usage on it. Anyway, you can upgrade the CPU later, keeping the same video card.

I think I will have to hang on for now......:-(
