Best settings for flying at night?

Recommended Posts

Spoiled by MSFS graphics during daylight, I've started to use P3D (5.1.HF1) only during night time. I'm flying mainly PMDG a/c between HQ add-on airports, so I created a P3D graphic profile "Night Mode" but I'm still struggling with the optimal settings. Off course I've disabled cloud shadows and reflections, but performance is still critical at some airports. Another question, Enhanced Atmospherics On or Off - I'm still undecided in this one. It also seems that EA ON is not consistent in its appearance. Sometime my a/c and the terrain looks great, at other situations my a/c appears in St. Elmos fire and water reflections are insane.

What are your experiences, any suggestions?

Without knowing what  hardware you use nobody can give proper advice.

my best advice is keep your AA at MSAA level, don´t use SSAA because it is really hard when loading dynamic lights.

The crazy water reflections appear when you have no reflection checked in the settings. I suggest checking at least user aircraft. It should get rid of it. Other than that, as someone said, be reasonable with AA settings. That's the worst nighttime killer.

No problem Marcus. What is your opinion about EA during night.

A bit too much moonlight and there are some reflection issues at snowy mountains.. At night there is no fog...so not visibility reduction also....

Otherwise ok.

On my systems when flying at night :

- no EA / clouds distance 80

- LOD radius Low

- Water Low / User AC enabled

- Scen Compl 1 notch lower

- No Shadows

If you don’t use lights Addons then AG density/range 1-2 settings lower
