May 10, 20215 yr To finish off the picture gallery of French airports - here’s LFST Strasbourg and LFRB Brest. Although my exploration of France 🇫🇷 is done for now, I’ll be sure to come back soon! Strasbourg is situated by the Rhine at the eastern border of France with Germany in the historic region of Alsace. It’s historic city centre is beautifully rendered by photogrammetry, where the iconic Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is visible from far across the plains of Alsace. The airport has a single 2400m 7874ft rwy. Approaches to runway 23 (seen in the pictures) has nice views of the city, whilst approaches to runway 05 over the hills is also scenic but a bit more challenging. Both directions feature ILS. Brest is a port city located on the western edge of continental Europe in the region of Brittany (French: Bretagne). The main runway is 3100m 10171ft, and runway 25L has ILS capabilities. There’s also a much shorter 700m 2297ft runway. I first flew in to Brest yesterday in a Bonanza G36 Turbo from Jersey, in horrendous weather. Overcast over 600ft, strong winds and icing conditions made the Bonanza a poor choice (no anti-icing capabilities). In comparison, the outbound trip to Gatwick in the A320 was an absolute breeze (same weather). Edited May 10, 20215 yr by Cpt_Piett 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
