Huge stutter fix (Cleaning PC & Changing Thermo Paste)

Featured Replies

Hey guys

i apologize if this one is too obvious but I had veery bad stutter issues which drove me crazy. I got a technician who fully cleaned my pc and changed thermo paste and the difference is just unbelievable. The sim that i was super frustrated at is now giving me joy every single day of running veery good visulas.

so might be too obvious but clean up your pc by professional if it has been more then 6 months since you have done so.

really? 6 months?  a couple of things come to mind maybe...  your pc is located in a very very dusty area or the original thermal plate was incorrectly installed.  but good for ya, have fun

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

Cleaned your PC?  Is this a way of saying you manage your Windows installation poorly and it was your fault the sim ran badly? Or it was just generally filthy?

Changing the thermal paste likely had nothing to do with your sudden gains (see above) unless it was poorly applied to begin with which is incredibly hard to do.

It is definitely worth considering, particularly for older machine in dusty location.  I found similar improvements in P3D early last year.  The clues where there all the time in the MSI Afterburn graphs in hindsight once I looked more closely.  In my case, there was CPU and GPU heat issues.

Probably seems hard to understand for hardware gurus, but for those of us that follow the "if it ain't broke leave it alone" camp probably worth being aware of as a possibility.

My PC gets dusty (enough for my liking) if I go 8+ months without cleaning so I clean my PC 2-3 times a year now. It's amazing how much cooler your PC runs just removing dust from heat sinks, radiators, fans and dust covers. It's especially important now that its getting hotter and the ambient room temp will rise. As for thermal paste I might do it maybe every 18 months but you can go 2-3 years just fine.

I ordered one of these for blowing dust out of my PC. It's not as thorough as canned air but faster and cheaper in the long run.
