June 9, 20214 yr Hi All, I'm trying adjust to the switch from ProATC X to Pilot2ATC.... Its a bit of a step accross, but one of the issues I'm seeing every flight (or every time I load Pilot2ATC) is CPU usage >20% (sometimes ranging up to 50%) and RAM usage over 2GB. The software is VERY slow to respond in all scenarios (not just FP loading or filing). I'm using an older Intel 4500U Laptop and it only has 4GB of RAM. Is that likely to be the issue? No issues buying another 4GB of RAM if that was the problem... Cheers, Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
June 9, 20214 yr Commercial Member Typical CPU usage for P2A on an i7 processor is about 1-2%. If you're getting 20+% then something is wrong with your installation or settings. 2GB of memory is about right. Here are some things to try: Check that you have a good internet connection. Check your Weather settings. Try using NOAA weather with the refresh rate at 15 minutes or more. Check your Map settings. Turn off "Center on Acft" if that is on. Try turning off AI Traffic to see if that makes a difference. An older version did have CPU issues related to AI Traffic. Try downloading and installing a fresh copy. Maybe something was corrupted in the installation. Dave
June 9, 20214 yr Author Thanks Dave, I'm enjoying the program (the trial ran out today) so need to decide if it's worth buying and taking the punt on a fresh install and perhaps another stick of 4GB RAM. This is an older laptop I use as networked PC for ActiveSky, LittleNavMap and a few other things. Never ran into a program with performance from it though. When I saw the high RAM usage I thought perhaps that might be why... Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
June 9, 20214 yr Commercial Member Even running only P2A on 4GB of Ram doesn't go well. With the other programs you mention, it's a definite issue. I suspect that the CPU usage is Windows thrashing memory, swapping it in and out for the various programs. Dave
June 10, 20214 yr Author Thanks Dave. Added another 4GB of RAM - much better! Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
