Waiting to hear the first reports of FSX and VISTA

Dear poster,Since Nvidia is behind with beta drivers, it is too early for me with my 8800gts (and you) to tell. As it stands, I get around 15% worse performance in vista. Which means I keep autogen on sparse and airplane traffic low when I used to have them both fairly high. I expect Nvidia will get it together near the end of the month, a couple weeks perhaps before the FSX service pack, at which point performance should be better than XP / original release, I hope. Also, for others thinking of getting an 8800, the improvement is good but not stellar. The biggest benefit I had was much better overall image quality i.e. little flickering, far less pop ups, the ability to turn traffic up in XP to medium high without much of a hit (negated now by bad vista drivers), normal to dense autogen at 20-27 fps average at Sitka (ditto). I had figured that I would be able to up water effects 2x from low but the fps hit is still absurd (almost as much as that of bloom), especially given that the 8800s tear up games like Oblivion with HDR and AA, countless objects, water reflections galore - even in beta driver vista. In other words, I bought the card for flight simming and have seen a huge improvement in programs I don't use much. Which means fsx is in dire need of optimization - as ACES has come to realize after letting microsoft lie about system requirements - and we pray that directx 10 will more or less cure their engine in god knows how many months of a zombie like state that can't even seem to handle shader model 3. OK, then. I guess the real test will come when NVIDIA posts new drivers. Thanks. I'll wait.
