SUCCESS here...

I just experienced the fail to load beyond splash screen tonight. I had actually deleted a logbook entry and noticed that FSX froze when quitting the program. I restarted my PC and launched FSX SE to find nothing beyond the splash screen, so I went down the logbook.bin path as the cause of failure. The 'FSX Logbook Recovery v1.1' utility by 'Daniel van Os' fixed the issue for me.
