July 5, 20214 yr The "Spectacular" in the title, here, sounds like a commercial for Southampton,...🙂..., because, it actually is...this is how Orbx has introduced this (nice) add-on (airport) scenery, which I picked up, today, from their on-going SALE... So, please find, below, 20 screenshots of this airport and vicinity, as I did a bit of sightseeing around (without the use of any plane)... The single Runway (02-20) of Southampton (EGHI), being north-south oriented, one can easily spot, in below images, I believe, the M27 motorway cutting across Hampshire, winding just past the Runway, on the south of the airport. Also included are a couple of shots of the Southampton Airport Parkway railway station (adjacent and to the west of Southampton Airport), inluding a picture of the simulated "Southwest Train" having just reached the platform. The South Western Railway system operates commuter services from its Central London terminus at London Waterloo to the various adjoining counties, including Hampshire. I've also captured, below, several (well-rendered-by-Orbx) pictures of the (prominent and historic) Ford Southampton plant complex, located also west of the airport, on the far side of M27 Motorway. And, I end my set with a few images, at twilight, looking out, from above the Southampton airport, across the city, into the distance horizon,...into the beautiful countrysides of Hampshire... As a (parting) thought of Southampton, I read somewhere, "If the still-standing old walls of the city could talk, they would tell of centuries of sea-goers passing through their gates - including the Pilgrims who stopped here for repairs and supplies..."... Of course, Southampton is also noted for its (historical) association with the departures of the RMS Titanic, and the Spitfire...(On, April 10, 1912, 12 p.m, the RMS Titanic had set sail from Southampton, England, on its maiden voyage, with approximately 2,220 passengers and crew...)... ...So long, then, until I visit the city, again, maybe, in a (virtual) aircraft,...🙂...next time... Thanks for viewing...!! [Orbx(EGHI/BOB), REX]
July 5, 20214 yr Author Patrick and Mr. Alaska...🙂..., Appreciated the comments...! [BTW, Alaska738, my own interest in Alaska Airlines 737s, goes back a long way,...it was mostly, I recall, due to a series of interesting articles that a (RW) pilot of Alaska Airlines was contributing to the "Airways" magazine...and, the Alaska pilots, as I also recall, were involved in the flight certification process, of some of the (then novel) RNAV approaches to the difficult airports in Alaska...] [Addendum: Did find an article, just now, "Alaska Airlines Pioneers RNP RNAV Operations"....in Boeing aeromagazine...interesting, yes, Alaska Airlines, with Boeing navigational experts, gained (first) operational approval for a B737-300 RNAV approach into Juneau Rwy 08...looks like...(when there was no such precedence)...]
