Couple of Classics...rarely seen...

Featured Replies

I caught an upload file today, in the Library, of these two classic and interesting (long-haul) propliners....

CL-44, was the license-built version, by Canadair, of the Bristol Britannia (see next). It's seen below in the livery of Loftleiðir, otherwise known as Icelandic Airlines (not to be confused with Icelandair). The airline operated between 1944-1979. Loftleiðir was the only passenger operator of the Canadair CL-44J variant, the largest passenger aircraft flying over the Atlantic Ocean at that time. Loftleiðir marketed the CL-44J under the name "Rolls-Royce 400 Prop Jet" (see marking on the Tail, in the image, below).

Bristol Britannia, a 4-engine turboprop, seen, here, in the color of British Eagle, was an output of the Brabazon Committee. Innovative, in its own right, it came at the juncture when the Airlines were already anxious to enter the jet-age. So, though moderately successful, it was soon eclipsed by the (emerging) long-haul jetliners (just as were, many other such large prop-liners of the era).

Beautiful shots! 🙂

Very nice classic, P_7878. Whenever I can port an FSX plane over to MSFS I have made the experience that their outside model looks so much better in the new environment, especially when you add a bit of shine to it. I don't want to highjack your post, but have a look at the FSX Goose for example:

NP at all...more the merrier...🙂...Wonderful shine on this Grumman goose...!

Though, I'm curious about all classic and forgotten airliners...I certainly wish to transfer some favorite ones...hopefully...one day...when I get there...🙂...

(Of course, glad you're able to do these conversions already...)...!!
