...so my HMD died (Reverb G1) a little over two weeks ago, on and off with HP support and eventually a new headset getting sent through hopefully later this week, thankfully it's still under warranty!

In the meantime I've tried to have a few flights and whilst it's manageable (I did fly a fair few hours before the VR update got released), it's just not the same and I know this, but I still feel that urge to fly and even pancake mode can itch that scratch...slightly! But it's just not the same.

I've become so accustomed to VR in recent years I know I cannot fully live without it, it's become an absolute essential part of my cockpit based simming life.

Update;

HP now can't source a Reverb G1 so they're refunding me (unsure on the amount...), in the meantime I've ordered a G2 to be delivered Monday from somewhere abroad via Amazon UK as the HP UK website was out of stock...useless!

Had to dip into the savings which isn't ideal, but i cannot live without VR so needs must!

Ok the G2 arrived, after a faff with the mains plug adaptor and a quick sprint to the local shop I eventually got up and running. So good to be back in the air in virtual reality, immediately felt like home!

Few things on the G2 on first impressions:

1) I definitely need a thinner/smaller facegasket as the smaller FOV is clearly evident compared to the G1 what with your eyes being much further away from the displays. I've since a bit of research and seen a fair few available, Danol seems to be very good so may go for that on pay day.

2) Sweet Spot is much smaller than G1 (this could be down to #1 above) but the surrounding areas appear sharper on first look. I had to lower SS to half to get the "same" resolution result and FPS.

3) The headphones are gonna take some getting used too, had to crank the volume up a bit.

4) Need to do some housekeeping with the cable around the HMD, a few cable ties or velcro ties should do the trick, the cable clip that comes with the HMD is next to useless and keeps popping off!

5) 29c in my room....too hot to carry on!

Some flightsim planes have windows which open without any negative issues. It does cool me down. Virtually!
