RXP – SOFWARE UPDATES RSS GNS 750 (resolved)

Hello,

(I'm bad at computers but I do my best.)

 I read:

"There are different ways to check for software updates"

For example this:

:"subscribe directly to our RSS feeds. The hub for all feeds is linked to this page (see notes below / RSS mark in your browser URL bar). It is also available at this URL: http://www.reality-xp.com/appcast/rxp-software-updates.xml "

RXP (Jean Luc) sent me: (Avsim 24 june)

Feed for the GTN (FltSim):
http://reality-xp.com/appcast/rxpGTN-FS.xml

My question:

PRACTICALLY how do I install this set of files so that the updates to my GTN 750 are done automatically. ?

Thanks for your help

Hi. I am another user.  Let me see if I can help.

The most convenient way to learn of updates is the RSS feed.  What triggers the RSS feeds is a dialog that pops up each time when running the installer or update installer.  That popup or dialog has an option to automatically check for updates. If you select that before proceeding then you should in the future receive the RSS feeds.  When available they arrive as Windows notifications as you boot your system up.

A second method is located in your Windows Start menu under "R" and then "Reality XP".  There will be a listing there of "Garmin GTN 750 650 (fltsim)".  Click on it and it checks for updates.

The third method to check for updates is also manual.  When running the simulator and after loading an airplane with RXP already installed, shift + right-click on the top edge of the RXP GPS's bezel to open the Configuration Panel (with some aircraft you may need to perform this step on the bezel of the 2D popup gauge).  When open, scroll to the bottom of the options and there you will find an option to check for updates.

Now, that all said, installation of the updates, when available, are not automatic.  They are user controlled.  You download the updates to your system as compressed .zip files.  You must locate them in the folder that you download them to.  Then you uncompress or unzip them.  That will extract an .exe installation file.  Double-click that .exe file to install the update and follow the prompts.

By the way.  This is the same for RXP GTN and GNS gauges. The title of this topic you started reads "GNS 750".  I do assume you intended it to be GTN 750 as you posted it in the RXP/FSX/P3D/GTN forum.

OK! I don't understand why RXP (Jean Luc) says : " If you also prefer using an RSS reader for this, you can directly subscribe to our feeds. More info here:

Please see my cut-and-paste quote from that link?  What now is your remaining issue?  Which is easier or more convenient for you? There are three clear and easy methods available.

Using RSS feed is very convenient. You can opt to subscribe to the RSS feed, and any time we release updates, you'll get notifications directly in your RSS aggregator (your mail program might support RSS feeds already, like Apple Mail). In addition, when you enable auto-update option during product installation, the software checks for updates automatically when you are flying with our products.

On the support page of Reality Xp it is written, I quote:

Software Updates

Reality XP now offers RSS feeds for our software updates. The RSS feeds automatically update as new versions are released, alerting you to the latest additions.

In simple language I am trying to find out how I should proceed to install the RSS feed from the explanations and data of RXP.

 What should I do?

Install an "aggregator"?

What to do with the XML file specific to the GTN 750?

Thanks

Yes, that is the purpose of RSS feeds:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS

NB: the RSS feeds automatically update the information in your RSS feed reader.

This has nothing to do with updating a software which consists in:

  1. knowing an update is available*
  2. downloading the updated software bits
  3. installing the downloaded software bits.

*the purpose of the RSS feed which is only 1 way you can get notifications, but you can also subscribe during installation for our own update notifier instead.

You might want to just select the "Subscribe to software update notifications" during installation and be done with it.

This is my problem and you know it.

I receive the update notification (now the July one) but download update does not install the rxpGTN-FS.zip file on my pc
(you are well informed of this, see our discussions of June 21 "RXP Update New version")

The proof as nothing is installed this notification comes back every day

I ask you again
Could a reinstallation of the GTN 750 solve this problem?

Merci
