I wonder how many developers realised how destructive MSFS updates were going to be. Not many is my guess.

By the time the sim is 4-5 years old a developer could have spent a lot of time and therefore money keeping a mod alive that is barely bought any more. I expect many of them to be broken and abandoned long before the sim dies.

It's many times more so for aircraft.

The Sim Skunk Works G91 is a case in point. A lot of users have reported major flight model changes since it was launched. The developer seems to think that isn't a problem.

This is a GOOD question, almost a similar situation to X-plane major revisions where many developers had to charge an upgrade fee to move from 10 to 11 or never made the upgrade at all. Had to justify an upgrade fee to customers though, unless MSFS goes to V2.

I don't agree about the G-91 though, for me if I keep it within the envelope it's fine...remembering it's not a trainer it's how I would expect an early swept-wing fast jet to fly. When the F-104 comes that's going to be even more challenging.

I suspect that they understood as well as we did that they were building a product to enhance an incomplete product and would likely need to provide updates later on. I also suspect that some thought they would get lucky that their product wouldn't get nuked along the way and went full speed ahead without planning on providing updates. I haven't bought any add-ons until recently since it seems as though MS/Asobo have the basics nailed down pretty well now and we aren't likely to see such huge changes going forward as we have in the past.

I've no idea whether the G91 is broken or not, never tried it, but enough users are reporting major differences compared to when it launched and quite a few have abandoned it.

Though I'm very tempted by the F-104, I want to know that it's going to survive without being mangled by Asobo and the creator's reaction to the G91 issues raised - there isn't one - is not reassuring.
