According to the comments on this video, you need a Powered USB 3.0 Gen 1. Later versions of USB, such as 3.1 give connect problems with G2. Sometimes the display will not even display anything at all in that case.

Can you recommend one please,i'm prone to buying the wrong things.

Sorry, I cannot. But here is the place to go to learn. HP itself makes a HUB that works but I imagine it is hard to find.

The horror stories on Reddit about experiences with HP G2 are mind boggling. One guy now has 5 cables (the one that runs from the headset to the computer (video and USB). HP kept sending replacements. Several persons have got replacement G2 headsets, some have received two replacements. Some have tried hub after hub to get one that worked.

By the way this is exactly why the Oculus Link cable is so expensive. It has no wires inside, fiber optics which do not break under flex nearly as easy. And superior materials inside the cable. But even that great cable has failed.

Determined VR players have installed pulleys overhead  to protect the wires.

The reason G2 users here on Avsim have so many fewer problems is that they aren't running and spinning around all over, waving their arms playing Beat Saber. The headset, cable, and plug sockets are not under great stress like with typical VR games.

Some motherboards work with the onboard USB. I have a Asus RogStrix X570-F that works with the case USB headers only (non of the rear work). I've also recently built two "E" version of the same motherboard and none of the USB ports work.

I've tested 3 different brand USB 3 PCIe cards and all of them work fine

I wouldn't worry about your purchase. imho there's currently still nothing better than the g2 available for overall visual quality and compact size, especially under $1k aud. 👍

The systems I've recently built are all AMD cpu based.

If the hub you've bought doesn't work, a pcie add-in card should solve any issues

You were right,i plugged everything in and followed the setup guide.Everything just worked,no powered hub needed.cheers.

i had problems with the g2 , have 2pc it worked with my intel 9900k asus formula 2080ti if a put usb in the gpu usb port , then i tested the usb c port on the mobo no go.

on my second main Sim pc AMD 5950x Gigabyte x570 and 3090gpu not worked only errors sometime it worked on one of the front USB but very laggy.

was in contact with HP support they send me a new cable and a HP mini Hub.

tested the new cable on the Intel system with usb C port from back of the Mobo all worked without USB Hub.

then to my AMD system hocked up the Usb on the C-port on the gigabyte board without any USB hub,

It suprized me it worked flawless , my conclution its cable problems

here a link to HP support tread with pics of the cable

I just wanted to mention that I recently requested a replacement cable as Westman did, and so far it has been working on any USB 3 port on the Asus Rog Strix x570-E motherboard. 👍 (previously none of this motherboard's USB ports worked with G2)

I've found that the power may need to be turned off / on (at the interface box) just after the USB cable is plugged in, for it to establish a connection (if it reports an error of some kind).

It's the large version of the interface  that I received. (has a power button)
