August 19, 20214 yr Greetings, fellow Avsim Pilots! You are all hereby cordially invited to participate in the Free For All in Nepal! The open event will be held by GunPilot399 on the Southeast Asia Server, on Friday 20th August @ 2300 UTC. Here is an invite link to his discord server, https://discord.gg/BJzNxsnp (link will expire in 7 days) Gunny is a great guy, he's from Australia and he's a retired bush pilot. Very easy to get along with. Friday nights typically draw around 30 active people, all are welcome. We fly with people from all over the globe, all ages. From first timers, to real life instructors and even the odd 787 pilot. Good mix of people. The discord server is used for communications, but it's completely acceptable if you'd rather just listen in. Hope to see you there! Quote Welcome to the 47th flight event in the Gunpilot’s Challenging Flights adventure series. This challenging flights event is located in the NEPALESE HIMALAYAS , and is again guaranteed to give you more of the heart pounding and sweaty palms experience that you have come to expect from Gunpilot’s flight events. This flight will be conducted at altitude and will see us landing on mountainside dirt strips and out landings in the mountains of Nepal. Of course there is a gliding challenge thrown in and will have you attempting to stretch a glide all the way from one airstrip into one of the sims most famous runways. This event has been run way back in late 2020 and was so well received that it is being run again… When: Friday 20th August @ 2300 UTC Where: NEPAL Flight Duration: Approx 2.5hrs (depending on numbers attending) Aircraft: Cessna Grand Caravan (as always as flight planned around Caravan performance) Server: SOUTH EAST ASIA Discord Server: https://discord.gg/rpsHtJXy74 (click on “#Gunpilot’s-Events”) Voice Chat accessed by clicking on Comms Radio RECOMMENDATIONS: Cessna Caravan as all landing and other challenges built into flight are tailored for this aircraft specifically Turn Damage mode off as you will most likely suffer at least hard landings if not full on crashes Bring plenty of Duc Tape for running repairs Crash Helmets are optional, Prayers are advisable Embrace “SLEW” as it will be your friend by the end of the flight Practicing to make Caravan landing approaches at IAS of between 40-50knts max will see you nailing difficult landings with ease and precision. Make it easy on yourself to navigate around the route and accurately pinpoint the exact landing areas by downloading and using the free “LittleNavMap” s/w you can get on the web - you will never open the standard sim VFR Map again once you have tried this fantastic app that integrates seamlessly with MSFS2020.
August 19, 20214 yr For serious insanity in Nepal, try landing backwards (downhill) on the Lukla runway ... it is a total rort.
August 20, 20214 yr Author In case anyone is thinking of joining the flight, the best way to proceed is to join the discord server ahead of time so you can download the flight plan on the events page. On Friday night make sure you're on the Southeast Asia server, you can select different servers at the top right of the screen next to your name in the sim. Load the flight plan and spawn at the departure airport. Try to spawn at least 10 to 15 minutes early, so everyone can form up on the taxiway. It lets you work out any issues. After changing servers it can take 10 seconds or so before human multiplayer traffic loads in around you, during that period you may not see anyone or not see everyone. Just remain patient, move around a little bit. Players disappear temporarily if you're too close to them. Xbox pilots are welcome too, just send an in sim friend request to GunPilot399 and then you'll be able to find him on the world map any time and spawn on him if you want. GP loves to make the landings difficult, so expect lots of fun and laughter to be had.
August 20, 20214 yr Just as a heads up and in case you were not aware, Sergio Del Rosso created some very nice Nepalese Airports that might go well with your plans. Have Fun! EDIT: By the way, these are all updated for compatibility with Sim Update 5 If interested, first You will need this Object Library SDR Himalaya Pack V1.0 Then the Airports! August 20, 20214 yr Author Excellent! I had them installed at one point, but forgot about them after doing a fresh install of the sim. I was holding off until I could confirm SU5 compatibility, and now they are. Much Appreciated! Installing them now. /Here is tonight's flight plan on my GoogleDrive, in case anyone doesn't do Discord. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Uo_WL0qAsTkQLaWD4BWf_pHtmqEVR_1R/view?usp=sharing
