August 23, 20214 yr After SU5 I had to lower my gamma in the nVidia CP and couldn't get HDR to work on my Samsung correctly. Then I discovered the HGIG setting. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.whathifi.com/amp/advice/hgig-explained-what-is-hgig-how-do-you-get-it-and-should-you-use-it The short story is that turning it on allowed me to restore my gamma and implement HDR correctly. Interesting stuff. bs AMD RYZEN 9 5900X 12 CORE CPU - ZOTAC RTX 3060Ti GPU - NZXT H510i ELITE CASE - EVO M.2 970 500GB DRIVE - 32GB XTREEM 4000 MEM - XPG GOLD 80+ 650 WATT PS - NZXT 280 HYBRID COOLER
August 29, 20214 yr Sprout, I switched to HGIG the other day from dynamic tone mapping. At first it took me a while to get used to it, because it's not a bright as dynamic mapping. But the colors and lighting are much more accurate this way, and after getting used to it I agree it's much better in my eyes. Thanks go to your post, for making me give it more time. At first I thought the display wasn't as vivid, but in the end it seems HGIG gives better overall mapping. And, that is what it's designed to do. So thanks!
August 29, 20214 yr Is this only available to monitors and not Samsung TV? I don't seem to have HGIG option. And I hate the overexposed look in bright objects such as clouds, resulting in loss of detail. Even with HDR off, highlights are still overexposed. August 29, 20214 yr Author I've since switched back to no HDR on my screen. Seems that colors are more vibrant with more contrast without it. Not to say that on the right screen like my old LG OLED HDR would be fantastic. August 30, 20214 yr I'm sorry, I don't own any Samsung tv's currently. But if anyone cares, here is what HGIG tone mapping is and what it does straight from HGIG (HDR Gaming Interest Group). https://www.hgig.org/doc/ForBetterHDRGaming.pdf
