P3D Scenery.cfg issue

Featured Replies

Hello, My orbx scenery was mixing up with my vanialla p3d scenery so i checked scenery.cfg and it looks like im missing a area. How would i go about fixing this?I have tried using the sync simulator option is orbx central.
Thank you.

Just open the file in notepad and renumber the areas so they're consecutive.  I end up doing that fairly often since P3D can't seem to keep it straight.

Better still, leave it alone. The spaces are almost certainly there to accommodate items installed as add-ons.
Here is how a typical P3D scenery.cfg file should look if there are only add-ons and no installed scenery:

[General]
Title=Prepar3D Scenery
Description=Prepar3D Scenery Areas Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Local=Scenery\World
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

[Area.002]
Title=Default Scenery
Local=Scenery\BASE
Layer=2
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

[Area.004]
Title=0000 Base
Local=Scenery\0000
Layer=4
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.005]
Title=0001 Base
Local=Scenery\0001
Layer=5
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.006]
Title=0002 Base
Local=Scenery\0002
Layer=6
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.007]
Title=0003 Base
Local=Scenery\0003
Layer=7
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.008]
Title=0004 Base
Local=Scenery\0004
Layer=8
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.010]
Title=0005 Base
Local=Scenery\0005
Layer=10
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

Etc.

Instead, you could try this advice from their forum.

I don't know if I necessarily agree to start manually manipulating that scenery file...depending on your experience, you could get yourself into a whole lot of issues!

For several years now, I've been using the Lorby Freeware Add-on Organizer to manage my sceneries. This has been particularly useful to add sceneries outside of the P3D directory.

It's a great product and can easily troubleshoot your scenery issues.

Editing that scenery.cfg file will most certainly only break it. Orbx Central was intended to work without manual user input.
It looks like the issue has nothing to do with the scenery.cfg file and to edit it will only cause further issues.

Check if that Area.005 entry has simply moved somewhere else in the scenery.cfg. The cfg isn't necessarily sorted by area number. Scenery wise you are not missing anything, the sequence of layers and the reference to the local scenery folders is unbroken (compare with the post below yours). So there is nothing obvious for you to fix.

But the 005 shouldn't be missing, that would be odd indeed. I think that the sim will tolerate it, but you may get into trouble next time something needs to be done with the scenery.cfg. So first make sure that it doesn't hide somewhere else in the file.

Totally untrue.  I often encounter situations where P3D load times extend way beyond what's normal for my installation, and with a bunch of Orbx stuff, scenery.cfg is usually the culprit.  Entries get all shuffled and out of numeric sequence.

Manually renumbering the entries fixes the sim's extended load time, and the sim is back to normal again.  Editing the .cfg file is a "FIX" in my experience; it doesn't "break" anything.

There's a reason why Orbx provides the option to open and edit the scenery.cfg file from within Orbx Central's Help screen.

It turns auto orbx scynced the scenery correctly but when i started p3d it changed it back to that so i made the scenery.cfg read only.
Thanks for the help!
