Goofy question about the Thrustmaster pendular Rudder

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of replace my old Saitek rudder to the Thrustmaster pendular Rudder but are concerned that the pedals are too high to have under my desk. (My availabe space from the floor to the desktop are 69,5 cm (27,58 inch) and I'm afraid that my knees will hit the desktop. Of course the length of the under legs varies but I wonder if it's a problem that any of you with the TPR rudder have experienced? Especially when using the too brakes.

Come here you big, beautiful cup of coffee and lie to me about how much we’re going to get done today.

I have the TPR as part of my dedicated cockpit and really like them.

Here is a link to diagram with detailed dimensions: TPR_Rudder_Cockpit_Setup.pdf (thrustmaster.com)

Regards height of your knees: with the TPR, your feet rest on the floor not on the pedals. The height of your knees is a function of how far away the pedals are from your seat.

I'm using the TPR is 3 sims: MSFS, P3D, and DCS. The toe brakes are working fine.

Thanks hs118, I understand that you are having your heels on the ground when applying rudder movment, but aren´t your feet get elevated a couple of inches when you apply the brakes and therfore risking of hitting the desptop?  But II´ll guess that I just can move the chair a little futher back to avoid that.

Similar to real world aircraft, when moving the rudder controls, only your toes are on the base of each pedal. That is when your knees are highest. For me, using the toe brakes actually lowers my knees because I am extending my legs a bit.

the highest my knees go is 26-1/4" using TPR pedals (TM pendular). The pedal height itself is 14-1/4 inch high.

According to the TPR manual, TM has 3 drivers for the pendular pedals on their website:

1 Joystick, TPR Rudder, Driver (the regular driver)

2. Joystick, TPR Rudder, Utilities, Advanced Calibration Software  (the advanced driver)

3. T.A.R.G.E.T (the Target software driver)

I use none of these, and did not even download them, I just use the MSFS options screen and they work wonderfully well for me that way.

There is a long TPR complaint thread in the MS official MSFS forum, (not Avsim). And it seems to me that most people there who said they aren't using the TM drivers have no problems.
