September 23, 20214 yr Hi Dave, I always thought that P2A only gives you a vectored approach if your flight path to the final would result in some steep turns (90 degrees or more?). I frequently encounter that P2A gives me vectors even though my approach including transition is pretty well aligned with my flight path. For example here, ILS Rwy 06 at EDLP with the PAD1 transition: or here, EGPH Rwy 06 with the TLA transition: Is this vectoring behavior intended? And if so, is there any way to ask for getting the approach / transition that was initially planned? Thanks! Dirk
September 23, 20214 yr Commercial Member Your first example looks like it's more than 90 degrees, but the second one should work without vectors. The Randomize Vector Approaches option will cause vectors to be given in situations that otherwise would not get them. Make sure that option is off. Also, if a transition has a manual termination, you will also get vectors, but I don't think that is the case at EGPH. Dave

Though that's part of the transition itself: I would have thought that such turns wouldn't be subject to the vectoring rules... In any case, this: 21 minutes ago, Dave-Pilot2ATC said: The Randomize Vector Approaches option will cause vectors to be given in situations that otherwise would not get them. Make sure that option is off. I checked and this option was indeed ON, so I bet that is most likely the reason. Thanks for the pointer Dave! Dirk
October 15, 20214 yr Author Hi Dave, might be a coincidence, but since I disabled this option I often don't vectors assigned even if the approach path is at a very steep angle, like e.g. but instead just a 'Cleared to ILS approach...'. Actually, I don't think I've had a single flight where P2A initiated vectors by itself, I always had to request them manually. Does this setting need to be ON to get vectors in general? Thanks, Dirk
October 15, 20214 yr Commercial Member If you have an Approach Transition in the plan, and the transition doesn't end in a "Manual Termination" waypoint, you will not get vectors. The assumption is that a published transition will put you in a proper position to intercept final. So, if you want to get vectors, then leave off the transition, and then, if the angle is acute from your final leg to the Initial Fix, you should get vectors. Dave

Ah, I believe in the above flight I selected INROT in the transition dropdown, that explains it. So what if I had chosen 'Vectors to CI24', would that have triggered to get vectors too, or do I need to leave the transition selection empty? Thanks! Dirk
October 16, 20214 yr Commercial Member If you choose Vectors, that will let P2A decide if the angle of approach warrants vectors. So, in the above case, the angle is such that you will be given vectors to final. Dave
