Hi all.

I am trying to reinstall my Logitech Flight Yoke without success. I am using 64 bit Windows 10 pro, which is fully updated, and trying to install the correct software 8.0.213.0 from the Logitech downloads page. It gets to the part where you plug the USB in, but the "NEXT" button stays greyed out. Even after plugging in the USB the yoke doesn't appear in the device manager HID or USB lists, and not even as an unknown item. The program itself is in the list of programs and there an icon on my desktop, but that only opens the yoke programming page which obviously doesn't work, because the yoke hasn't been recognised / installed. I have no reason to believe that the yoke itself is faulty / broken.

I remember having this problem over a year ago when I first got the yoke, and it took me days to install it, but I can't remember how I actually did it.

Logitech are not very helpful as they only suggest to do, what I have already tried, from their FAQ page.

Can anyone help please?

Do you really want to use the Logitech programming software? It's not necessary, although from memory it will allow you to make use of the 'mode' switch, which can be otherwise quite fiddly. The yoke doesn't need a driver, it's a standard HID. Also you don't seem to say which sim you are using, which will be relevant to how you can program the yoke. I am assuming you have checked that the yoke actually works - i.e. by looking a tthe Windows game controller screen (or whatever it's called in Windows 10).

Thanks for your reply. I am on MSFX.

I'm not that interested in programming it, I  can do that in the sim, I just want to get it to work and I am pretty sure that it does need a driver.

My PC is not recognising it as it is not appearing in hardware or my game device manager HID or USB lists. From my research on the internet it would seem that a number of people have this problem and some suggest that the problem is related to a windows 10 update. I know that I struggled to install it when I first bought it over a year ago, but eventually managed to.

A green light on the thrust quadrant shows that it is getting power and I have no reason to suspect that the yoke is faulty / broken.

I don't want to waste my money buying a new one if I am just going to get the same problem.

Any suggestions?

Hi Ray56

As MarkDH said, you don't need to install Logitech/Saitek drivers.
As he also said is that your "signature" would be helpfull to assist you, knowing the simulator you fly with and some data about your config.

I'm under P3D V4.5 and I use Spad-neXt to manage my devices (radio panel, multipanel, rudders, pro yoke, and even a couple of Thrustmaster Cougars)

Easy to personnalize, without need of external drivers...

By the way, try to verify the internal commands (i.e. for P3D : Options/controls/key assignments... not to superseed the commands coming from your device.

The "middle" version has a reasonable cost (by memory about 20$, to be verified) and is worth a free try .

Good flights

I can't contradict that as I have little experience with Windows 10 and don't have the Saitek yoke any more. But it seems very unlikely that the Saitek yoke would work driverless in Windows vista, XP and 7 but then suddenly need a driver in Windows 10. I still can't tell which sim you're using, but perhaps you mean MSFS?

Have you checked to see if it appears in Control Panel, Device Manager, HID (Human Interface Devices)?  When there unplug it and plug it back in.  See if any listed devices disappear and then reappear.  If so, check it's Properties and make sure Windows is not applying Advanced Power Management to the device.  If so, disable that setting for that device.  Saitek devices and Advanced Power Management have not cooperated for years.  BTW, do the same for other flight control devices as well.

Don't get hung up on the green LED.  It could be getting enough power for the led but not enough for control.  Do this before you go running out for a new powered USB hub.

Thankyou all for the responses, it is much appreciated.

My sim is MSFSX

The yoke doesn't appear in the device manager HID or USB lists, and not even as an unknown item but the program itself is in the list of programs.

Below is the instruction from the yoke manual which actually references the drivers.

INSTALLATION FOR WINDOWS® 10, WINDOWS® 8.1 AND WINDOWS® 7 DRIVER INSTALLATION

1 Visit logitech.com/support/yoke to download the latest drivers and software for your operating system.

2 With device disconnected, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

3 At the Driver Setup screen, only when prompted, insert USB cable into one of your computer’s USB ports, then click Next.

4 At the Driver Setup screen, click Next to test your controller.

5 Follow the on screen prompts to test the controls and verify device operation.

Maybe I should assume that the yoke is faulty and get a replacement?

Any other comments would be appreciated.

A hardware fault always seems the least likely explanation to me, but in this case it seems your have something wrong. I am pretty convinced that the yoke should show up in Windows whether or not it needs a driver. Generally, when you plug a device in Windows will detect it, then try to install it using whatever drivers it has available, and then complain if it can't find a suitable driver. This is why the Logitech instructions don't want you to plug it in unil they're ready, because they want to subvert the standard driver installation. In your case it looks like the device is simply not being detected by Windows. Can we assume you have tried different USB ports? I would think it's more likely that you have a faulty USB port or connection than a faulty yoke, particularly as you said it worked before, so that's worth ruling out. I would also follow some of the suggestions in this thread in case you have some kind of phantom device driver issue.

Thankyou for taking the trouble to reply so comprehensively.

I have tried all of my USB ports, and also checked that they work with other hardware, with no problems.

My pc doesn't acknowledge the yoke when I plug it in. I have also tried it on my other 64 bit Widows 10 non gaming PC, and also on my old 32 bit Windows 7 laptop, which needed the 32 bit software.

This is why I am now thinking it is a fault with the yoke itself.

I have looked through the link you sent and may try a few things I have seen there but I am not very pc minded and would worry that I could do more harm than good.

I have even plugged in an Xbox Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 racing wheel and used the gear change paddles as elevator control and buttons for increase and decrease throttle, but obviously that is not a long term solution to my problem.

If I return it, at least I will find out if it is the yoke at fault, which I now suspect it is.

To be fair to Logitech, they have agreed that this has failed after 16 months, and within the 2 year warranty period, and are sending me a replacement, even though I had lost the original purchase receipt. That is excellent customer service.
