CPU temps used to be 85+ now 45+

Recommended Posts

Nothing to do with coolers here, but I was always more worried about my GPU temp than my CPU temp up until SU5.  Something clearly happened with SU5 though as since then, my GPU has been running pretty cool, but my CPU temps are well into the 80s now and even crept over 90 during the summer.  Running at 30 fps rather than 60 fps seems to have shaved a few degrees off though as has taking the sides of the case off.

I think your cpu fan or impeller motor may be gradually failing. The temps kept getting higher as the weeks rolled by on my system until I fitted a new cooler (new thermal paste had not helped).

That may be worth keeping an eye on, but it's not really been a gradual increase.  Now that the ambient temperature is lower, the temps are a little better. It was really just a case of why SU5 seemed to result in increasing CPU temps and decreasing GPU temps. MSFS seems to be running OK, but I'll have to keep an eye on them.  If things get much hotter, I will consider looking out for a bigger aftermarket cooler (though running with the sides off the case makes a difference).

The other thing is that my PC is sat on carpet and I think it draws in air from the bottom, so just putting a piece of board underneath may help.
