November 7, 20214 yr Greetings, I did a search for this - but all I got back were unrelated threads. A relative bought me the DVD retail package of FS2020 for pc. I am curious if I need to conduct the install from the dvd, or if I can submit the redeem code and install from online? Obviously the discs are a pain to install from. I have never otherwise purchased or installed FS2020 on any other device. Thanks!
November 7, 20214 yr Author disregard - found out on my own... went ahead and redeemed the code on the MS store, clicked install. It downloaded an installer package, asked me to put the disc in. I did that (disc 1) - it whirred for a while, then gave me a bunch of menu options to configure, and after that it started downloading from the update, using the installation manager. Looks like it is going to take a while - but it is indeed downloading and appears to be installing, without further accessing the dvd.
November 7, 20214 yr I can’t answer your question on the redemption code , but this thread will be helpful if you use the DVD disks : https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405896778770-Retail-Disc-Version-Download-Installation-guide
November 7, 20214 yr I cant answer also, about the Redemption code, but I've found once the Disc`s are installed, your other updates are through the Microsoft Store and your content manager. If I've had a problem, I only ever reinstalled from the Store and Content Manager, this I discovered after having Uninstalled the lot and starting from scratch. Watch for a possible error from an ultralight 103 in your error log if the sim wont start after you have fully updated everything, eventually I learnt the hard way, (after full uninstall's and reinstalls) that all I had to do was go into the content manager and uninstall the ultralight. 2 hours ago, srobak said: Greetings, I did a search for this - but all I got back were unrelated threads. November 7, 20214 yr I purchased the Premium Deluxe DVD set from Aerosoft, installed the DVD's (yes it's a hassle, but you eventually get there), entered the redemption code, everything worked fine even though time consuming. After this initial install, all of the updates have come online through the MS Store. No real issues, but if I had it to do over, I probably would just purchase it online through the store. However, I now have a very nice package that the DVDs came in to put in my book case. My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB DDR4 RAM, Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel Sims: MSFS2020 Preferred Aircraft Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049
November 7, 20214 yr Author Thanks for the replies... I had to let the install manager run all night - downloading averaged between 7 and 30 Mb/s .... while simultaneous speed tests showed I had 450+ Mb/s connectivity. So on that note - downloading from ms store sucks just about as bad as disc shuffling.... lol. the only saving grace was going to sleep while it did it's thing. No errors or anything along the way. Woke up this morning to find it had completed and sitting at some basic config menus. I am working my way through that now - meticulously - and hoping to take flight later this afternoon. I have yet to reboot or anything, and plan to do so prior to first flight, I am just getting everything out of the way that I can for the moment. Thanks again for the replies, and the tip about the 103. I will keep an eye out for it.
