November 8, 20214 yr A recent thread cleared up my misconceptions around vsync and fps. I've ended up with a beautiful and smooth msfs, so I decided to take another look at field of view. Only way I know to get an accurate FOV is to use an online FOV tool then set Xplane to the right number of degrees. I used the C172 in Xplane at Orbx Shoreham in the UK. I parked at several locations and took screen shots from many angles in the cockpit view. I loaded up MSFS in the default C172 and changed the zoom level at the same locations until the views matched. For my 35inch 3440x1440 Monitor, the required zoom level was 82. Well worth a check to see if your zoom level setting is too low (zoomed out to far). Ever since the dawn of time I have been zoomed out farther than would be accurate. I've done this in order to increase the sense of depth and also speed while on the ground at TO. Plus, in FSX/P3D it helped improve a sense of sharpness in the distance. It's probably a good time to revisit this because when you zoom in, in MSFS, things stay sharp and clear. I do use a custom view for landings which zoom in the outside view. Cheers and thanks for bringing this up! Good suggestion, and I did use a zoom tool in P3D so I have some idea how things should look. However, I almost exclusively fly IFR so I zoom in enough so the instrument details are nice and clear. Given that my eyes are not what they used to be, I doubt I am zoomed out to far! 😉 Al Edited November 8, 20214 yr by ark
