So, getting more into flying outside of Europe and further East..aka, going to the west.

I wanted to do a flight from Chicago. However, when selecting the runway (22L) I only had one start., ORD6. Fine, I guess, but none of the transitions (since when does a SID have transitions?) worked towards my flightplan. made by simbrief:

Any tips what I should look for? IS it the scenery (MSFS FS dreamteam).

That's quite normal in the States, they don't tend to prescribe departure routings too strictly, the controller will vector you towards your initial fix and send you on your merry way.

I used to think the transition system was a bit odd - but realised it actually makes sense. Take the CIITY3 RNAV SID out of KSFO, all routes follow a standard routing to CIITY, after CIITY there are 6 possible routes to take, in very different directions - in Europe we'd mostly produce 6 different SID charts, all complete with their bespoke routings, but by using a transitions, it can all be done on one chart!

Amsterdam for example has 54 pages of SID charts - KSFO only 24, saves a lot of charts.

Exactly, it eases the traffic flow while making departures more effective and efficient.

Just for information - I went onto "Flightaware" to find a real live flight going from KORD to KLAX, UA490 737-900 currently enroute, that aircraft filed:
