November 30, 20214 yr I just watched Cabaret for about the 6th or 7th time. The movie fascinates me on a couple of different levels. And I like Michael York and Liza Minnelli. It takes place in 1931, two years before I was born. I'm fascinated by the decadence of the era. But I love the cabaret scenes, the dancing and the singing. Joel Grey won an Oscar for playing the master of ceremonies. He's brilliant in this movie. Liza Minnelli plays the carefree woman living from day to day as if time would never end, although in the song 'Come to the Cabaret' the end is certainly recognized by her roommate Elsie who had 'the most beautiful corpse' Liza ever saw. But all through the movie there is the constant thought that these people have no idea what is going to happen to them in a few short years. This is my favorite scene because I play a small bit part in it...figuratively speaking. I am the old man dressed in black wearing a black fisherman's cap. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
December 3, 20214 yr Author Joel Gray. He was club master of ceremonies. He teamed up with Lize to sing 'Money, money, money makes the world go around..." He won an Oscar for the role. But with that makeup he's also make a good Dracula. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
December 3, 20214 yr Moderator That's Joel Gray, who played the part of the Caberet's leader/host. EDIT: I need to read posts made in my absence from the keyboard, as Noel answered an hour ago! 😁 Fr.
